Hey so the other day I found a normal looking USB and plugged it into my computer. It got detected for a slip second and then disappeared but the USB it self was heating up really quickly like in 15-20 seconds it was hot. So i decided to open it up and um it was more or less all plastic and didn't look like a usual USB so does anyone know what this is?

I'm confused on how it is getting hot. It has nothing to get electrical resistance on. (compared to a bigger electronic)

i5-8600k, MSI Z370-A Pro, 2x 8GB DDR4-3k, MSI Gaming X 1060, NZXT S340, 2TB HDD, 750w Corsair PSU, AOC 2775 OC'd to 80Hz and CFG73 at 144hz

The longer it's in the hotter it gets. If you rub your hands together for a bit and feel that heat it would be similar

All of you should google USB attacks. There is a 80% chance the OP is compromised.

Spoiler

Q: Do I have a virus?!
A: If you didn't click a sketchy email, haven't left your computer physically open to attack, haven't downloaded anything sketchy/free, know that your software hasn't been exploited in a new hack, then the answer is: probably not.

Q: What email/VPN should I use?
A: Proton mail and VPN are the best for email and VPNs respectively. (They're free in a good way)

Q: How can I stay anonymous on the (deep/dark) webzz???....

A: By learning how to de-anonymize everyone else; if you can do that, then you know what to do for yourself.

Q: What Linux distro is best for x y z?

A: Lubuntu for things with little processing power, Ubuntu for normal PCs, and if you need to do anything else then it's best if you do the research yourself.

Q: Why is my Linux giving me x y z error?

A: Have you not googled it? Are you sure StackOverflow doesn't have an answer? Does the error tell you what's wrong? If the answer is no to all of those, message me.

That sounds like electrical resistance, which would imply a logic board, but it doesn't have a logic board. This is truly something strange you've found

I knew about USB attacks, but it doesn't have any storage to put the attack onto, which is what threw me off.

Yes you should, or USBs will come and kill your computer in your sleep

It could be built into the USB head itself, where the plastic end is a way to fool the victim into thinking it's nothing. There are USB controller destroyers where it looks like a USB flash drive and then it pumps massive amount of voltage killing it. Looks like your system is f*cked up.

If that's the case OP better start testing the usb ports he plugged that into.
