240hz monitor stuck at 60hz

PC Specs:

I7-7700
GTX 1060

So I recetly bought the Dell Alienware AW2518HF, the freesync model since everyone said that with a 240hz refresh rate, gsync is useless. So i connected this monitor to my PC with a HDMI 2.0 cable and the refresh rate is capped at 60hz only. I dont know what to do...can someone help?

then it is probably something to do with your monitor's settings.

try going into the monitor's menu and setting the refresh rate there.

I'm pretty sure you can't get 240Hz with HDMI cable or can you? I think you just need to use DVI-D or Displayport cable and it'll work

HDMI 2.0 supports that, but it may not be implemented in the monitor's controller as was the case with HDMI 1.4. The easies way would be to switch to DP.

For reference, the monitor does support 1080p @ 240 Hz over HDMI (according to the manual).

Most likely you would have needed to set a custom resolution, or, if you were trying to set from the NVIDIA control panel, select the resolution from the PC section of the list, not the TV section.
