Looking for a CPU air cooler to use in a dedicated VR rig, and buying with it being a backup cooler for my other rigs in mind. Stuck between the Noctua NH-D15 and Dark Rock Pro 4. Like the looks of the Pro 4 way better, like the build and mounting of the NH-D15. Not in a hurry either, it's replacing a H105 AIO that's getting seriously long in the tooth but I could get by for even a few months. Hopefully lol

Any input?

If anyone asks you never saw me.

It's a hunk of metal, warranty doesn't matter to me as any fan that fails I'll just replace with what's new. Noctua has the best socket support as they offer free adaptors for any future socket.

You just answered your own question.

All I can say is that the NH-D15 is great enough to probably make you not regret losing in aesthetics, it is the prime of air cooler performance and has good mounting mechanism.

Over all we're satisfied with it, now sure the pro 4 looks good and frankly speaking depending the CPU you're going if its like i7 8700k style of things I would actually recommend you to go with it for the simple fact it'll be enough and you like its looks, should feel good about the product not just pick it up for some pressure of doing it the "rightest way".

Going over a 4790k for the moment. I want overboard cooling due to the system not being monitored much. My brain loves the Noctua, my dick the Pro 4. Graduation all over again.

I've heard the DRP isn't too hard to mount if you do it outside of a case. Do it inside? Nightmare.

I'm going to assume that you're pretty experienced, more so than me. I was able to get a DRP3 in a motherboard already in the case so you probably just fan too xD. Might take some patience but it's not anymore than 45 minutes.

Yeah I can pull the motherboard and have it back up and running within a few minutes. The case won't be on display right now, hidden actually. But if say my X62 were to die the DRP would look better in my main rig.

I own the drp3 and it is a charm. And I have it in its board I had to mount in while motherboard was already mounted on the case, and it wasn't difficult at all. I can only imagine the drp4 to be better. But sure the noctua one might get the edge on minor performance increase but the colour clash is too much for me (maybe not for you). It boils down to which one is cheaper and which one you like the most. Be quiet costumer service is top notch and I haven't had any experience with noctua so I can't talk about them

Any input?

If you want something that looks good, get the bequiet.

If you just want a piece of metal that cools good, get the Noctua.

Easy as that.

The Performance between isn't that different.

And the Mounting isn't that different either. Same shit, just looks different, nothing to it.

As for cooling: Not a real difference either:

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/beQuiet/Dark_Rock_Pro_4/6.html

So its more like a question of Taste.

None of those seem really be better in any way.

The main difference between mounting is the shape and finish of the Noctua hardware being a bit easier to position and not slip with--mainly screw heads that are larger or shaped in a way that is more easy to position. The mounting is fundamentally the same though.

which has longer warranty and support for new sockets?

Probably Noctua at 6 vs. 3 years.

The NH-D15 performs better and the DRP4 is quieter.

Both are hard to go wrong with but I'd say the Noctua is better if you want proven reliability / longevity.
