What would be the best headphones I could get for $250 at most (sound quality wise)

Yep, that's the ticket.....but if you wanna go Planar mag, the HiFiMan HE4XX would be the one (not sure if neither are actively on drop though). The HE4XX is brighter or has higher treble energy (sparkle), so if you don't like or are averse to treble, the HD6XX is a safer bet. Below is proof that I have both, and at least have an idea what I'm talking about....:D

Go used. Check head fi for some good deals. $250 gets you close to the ad2000x (if you can find them) or the Grado RS2i. 

 

Neither the HE4xx nor the HD6xx is easy to drive, so budget for an amp/dac accordingly.

4XX is easy to drive. What are you talking about?

I have both as well. 6XX is a more technically impressive headphone without a doubt. 4XX I think more people will enjoy the sound signature, but it doesn’t have the clarity that the 6XX does. I might be getting rid of my 4XX because these HE560s, my goodness.....
