Hi. I've recently build a new pc, and my gpu is to arrive by mail soon. Its the Gigabyte AORUS GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Waterforce WB Xtreme Edition 11G GeForce GTX. Looking for advice, i've never done this before. Do i need a certain case? I have this one https://de.pcpartpicker.com/product/svVBD3/fractal-design-case-fdcadefsbk

Define S is an exelent watercooling case, you are fine with that one for sure :D

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Watercooling a gpu is also effective. Your temps will be great (assuming you setup your loop properly) You take cards that even with custom coolers hit 80c and turn them into nice cool 35-40c beasts. Not only that but you have more control over where the heat is dumped. Instead of having it dump into your case and causing turbulence with your case air flow, you can have it either dumped outside of the case or have it receive fresh ambient air.

So.. i'm looking to just cool my gpu with liquid. What is recommendable? Also not looking to pay too much.

What is not to much? Anyway, you'll need a radiator, pump, reservoir, some fittings and tubing.

For the radiator I would recommend a 240mm one. That's enough for only a GPU.

Get a good pump. A D5 or DDC one is preferable as those pumps are strong enough if you want to expand your loop later on.

Fittings, here it gets a bit tricky as it depends on the type of tubing you go with and the inner and outer diameter of the tubing.

Watch some video's from JayzTwoCent's channel on YouTube.

Arent there any premade water cooling systems that is a complete package?

Yes there are but as far as I know they also include a CPU block.

It's better to go with a custom loop though.

What's your budget by the way?

I'd say 150 to 200 euros should be the max.

That's a tight budget. For example:

- Radiator €71: https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-coolstream-pe-240-dual

- Pump/reservoir combo €142: https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-xres-100-revo-d5-pwm-incl-pump

and then you'll need some fittings, tubing and fluid which'll be another 30-50 or so. Watercooling isn't cheap unfortunately. Having the block come with the cards saves you another ~150 though (but that's probably already included in the card's price somehow).

If your budget allows, then you should get a P240- kit, that'll give you everything you need for your GPU look  and a CPU block that you could expand to in the future with just 2 more fittings and a radiator.

https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-kit-p240

The L240 kit is a cheaper alternative but comes with a pretty "meh" pump and, so your money will be well spent on the P240 kit instead.

What about something like this? https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/764141/nzxt-kraken-x62-(met-am4-support).html i'm not planning on expanding in the future, i just got this gpu for a good price but gotta cool it somehow.

That's an AIO, not to be designed to be incoorporated into a custom loop. There are many reasons why that is not compatible, so that will not work.

Why do i need a custom loop?

Because your graphics card has a full cover waterblock on it. There is no cooling on it unless you have water pumping through it, and a radiator to dissipate that heat.

And that is an aluminium kit, the gpu has a copper block, definitely not compatible.

Is there anything i need besides this kit?

If you're happy with soft tubing and not having a drain port, then there is nothing else you need apart from the standard stuff like a screw driver and a pair of scissors.

  • 1 month later...

So i managed to get it all done, finally. Thanks for the help everyone.

Now a couple of questions..

The fans seem to ramp up and down for no reason, even in idle. And they are much louder than my regular fans.

I had to use a split cable to get them connected to the mb.

Is it recommended that i get another fan to dissipate more heat? When i'm gaming there tends do be a lot of heat coming from the back fan. Currently i have `1 fans on the front sucking fresh air in, one in the back blowing hot air out. And, 2 fans on the radiator that's heating the case basically.
