GPU vs CPU Investment Build?

I'm at a crossroads with a new build and unsure of the diminishing returns of investment with GPU and CPU combo.

 

Current Intel Build £1700 ($2437) - Z370 Chipset, 960 NVME, 16G DDR4 3000Mhz, Hydro Cooling, 650W Modular PSU, 1440P 100Mhz Monitor.

 

Choice 1: 11GB GEFORCE GTX 1080 Ti costing £758 (MSRP £629) with an i3-8350k (4.0GHz) (£150) Costing Total: £908 ($1301)

 

Choice 2: 8GB ASUS ROG STRIX GEFORCE GTX 1080 costing £573 (MSRP £529) with an i7-8700k (3.7GHz) £270 Costing Total: £843 ($1208)

 

I'm planning on using my PC for light streaming, Ultra High Graphics in RTS like Anno 1800 and Anno 2205, I might try PUBG not sure.

 

Don't care about RGB, using PC Specialist for the build as you can get the GPU near MSRP.

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Go for choice 2. I dont think the benefits from a 1080ti will outweigh the disadvantages of the i4 procesor. and with choice 2 you have a more balanced loadout which should give you less bottlenecks from the cpu

At 1440p, the i3 probably wont be a bottleneck for the 1080ti, but since you plan to stream (even light streaming...) I go with option #2 (8700k+1080)

I was thinking that but have read and watched comments on RTS and most games not utilizing more than 4 cores because tech hasn't caught up yet. So 6% higher MHz on the single core performance for £190 more I'm not to sure. Multi core yes us 46% higher but I won't be doing and 3D editing or much rendering. Still open to advice though.

No I haven't settled on those parts just yet, those are initial choices so far, could drop to the odler Z270 chipset, but not sure. Also till deciding 1440p vs 144Hhz, both would obviously be great.

i7 8700 locked with cheapest possible z370 and cheaper aftermarket cooling and a 1080 Ti xd. best value on high end.

I would love to be able to get both that's a no brainier, it's deciding were to put the extra £190 into a processor or graphics card. Don't want the CPU bottle necking still unsure ¬¬.

If you can't afford them might as well settle for the i5 8400 on the cheapest locked motherboard you can possible find and a GTX 1070 Ti overclocked:

You'll still have a very powerful gaming rig, for a lot less.

Z270 doesnt support 8th gen CPUs, you have to use 300 chipsets.

 

Maybe use B360/H370 mobo (with heatsink on the VRMs, big ones are better), i7-8700 and a dirt cheap cooler instead, then put a 1080ti in there. If that's still too much money, drop the RAM to 8GB 2800-3200 and make sure there's still space for RAM upgrades.
