Elite is fine if you like space trucking and some combat, would recommend Twin Sticking it.

Or just play FTL

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Then your looking at Elite Dangerous, Star Citizen, No Man's Sky, Everspace.

EVE is sort of like those.  but its more of a focus on economy.  If you want to sit back and chill and enjoy the game.  Elite or No Man's Sky.

I have 700+ hours of EVE registered on steam... many thousands besides.  and played on 2 accounts..... it gets pretty heavy pretty quick, if you want to play go for it.  there is no other game like it IMO.  but know that to really get good, you have to put the time and effort to do so.

damnit....now i want to play EVE again...

What genre? My current favorite is Stellaris, but it's a strategy not a combat sim.

Stellaris is wonderful.  I just cant keep up with the DLC.

Tell me about it. I've considered going to the store page gritting my teeth and just clicking "add to cart" over and over. It's only money lol.

That looks horrificlly uncomfortable

Kerbal if you wanna feel like a mad scientist
Stellaris if you wanna be space furries

Elite Dangerous if you want to explore the depths of space, also trade gold

What do you want? Space Sims like Wing Commander??

Sadly most of the games that were really good in this genere are rather old...

Like from the 90s old...

Some had some Remakes like X-Wing and TIE Fighter, especially the latter is really good. And there are also some other Games:
Freespace

Tachyon

Starlancer

If you want space trade simulations, the X-Series isn't bad...

But they all require a Joystick to really play.

For still images (Office Work) TFT was always superior.

I think FreeSpace 2 (available on GoG) is reputed to be one of the best, and there are a ton of graphical and content mods available for it.
