What thermal paste? (i7-6700)

SaltVault997

Upgrading my stock cooler on my i7-6700

not sure what thermal paste to use, im currently getting 60-75c when i play my normal games but i would like my components to last as long as possible.

i will not use liquid metal cooling because i am inexperienced with doing these types of things myself but im getting there.

Those temperatures are fine for prolonged use.

If you get a third party cooler, it should come with some paste, just use that.

general rule is that you should avoid cheap brands. Anything from be quiet, thermal grizzly, etc will be good

Those temps are ok. You won't shorten CPU's lifespan even if it was 10°C warmer.

Save that money and invest in something else later on.

Most thermal compounds that come with name brand products, such as what comes with a cooler you buy from Corsair, Noctua, Be Quiet!, Cooler Master, etc. are usually just fine. Buying better pastes usually doesn't net you more than 0-3 C than what comes with your cooler.

That said, I bought a bunch of Arctic Silver a while ago, so that's what I use. I run an 8700K with a 4.7 GHz all-core turbo at 1.25v on a Hyper 212 Evo and I don't have any thermal problems, but if I used the paste that came with my cooler, I'm absolutely sure I'd be able to run the same overclock. Paste isn't really an issue unless you buy really cheap, off-brand stuff.

Pretty much anything this side of toothpaste is fine. Even a lot of the cheap Chinese stuff on eBay will do the job. Just don't buy it in bulk, because the paste separates over time and turns into a watery, conductive mess.

Here is your answer. (Not mine)

Your temps are more than fine and changing thermal paste will NOT make a noticeable difference in performance or lifespan of the components.

If you are going for aftermarket cooler, those have good enough paste for the job.
