Need assistance choosing a new display

GrandKei

Hi,

So after I put together a massive mound of money to buy a new pc that can actually do something more then puke in my face when I ask it to open chrome I realized that the monitors I had around my house just wouldn't really cut it for the hardware I am packing now.

I am looking to get a high refresh rate display hopefully with G-sync within the ballpark of $500 USD by the end of this month for my own birthday. The only problem is after looking into things I have found that there are just a large variety of options on top of worry myself with reviews about how the monitor may come with dead pixels or whatever defect.

Bottom line is, I am looking to consult the community about what I should be doing with this money. I would love to have in addition to the previous prerequisites 1440p since I do have a gtx 1080 and I can still get around 120 or more in esports titles easy at that resolution, not that it matters terribly with gsync in the mix.

I just don't know which one to get and would love the help of the community on trying to decide what I should get.

Right now I'm looking at the Dell S2716DG, is there something better and/or more reliable within my price point that anyone thinks I should go for??

I've heard good things about the Dell S2716DG and S2417DG. I know two people that have the 24" model and haven't heard anything bad about it.

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

I would just pick whichever is the cheapes with the same spec. They all use prety much the same panel. If it is Acer, ASUS, AOC or ViewSonic, they all use panels from AUOptronics. I believe that BenQ and Dell make/use different panels but I am not 100% sure.

This one is usually the cheapest one with IPS and has an excellent stand

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/scM323/aoc-ag271qg-270-165hz-monitor-ag271qg

but it is $699...

The TN version is only $399 but it is also a bit smaller at 23,8" instead of 27"

The DELL 27" is TN as well and is $470

The DELL 23,8" TN can be also found for $399 like the AOC one

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/CwgPxr/dell-s2417dg-238-165hz-monitor-s2417dg

If you are going to decide between the 23,8" $399 ones, then I would just grab whichever has a better warranty, probably Dell.

Otherwise, you really have just a one choice (Dell S2716DG) for the 27" TN with G-Sync and 144/165Hz to fit in the $500 budget.
