What do you want to do with this? If the answer is gaming and some content creation, go Ryzen instead. Cheaper boards, better CPUs for the money.

PC Specs - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D MSI B550M Mortar - 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4-3600 @ CL16 - ASRock RX7800XT 660p 1TBGB & Crucial P5 1TB Fractal Define Mini C CM V750v2 - Windows 11 Pro

That doesn't mean you should spend $200 on a board for a dead platform. Even the Xeon E5 v3 and v4 chips that these boards can work with don't come cheap yet.

definitely go for ryzen in this instance, eventough X79 is capable as-is, right now it is really lacking behind in newer feautures like NVMe M.2 and all that jazz.

i know because i have X79 right now :P

Id rather stay with older platforms as parts are cheap and easy repair.

Except the X platforms aren't cheap yet. The boards are expensive and for X99 CPUs and RAM are too.

yeah but 150 for a mobo plus at least 300 for cpu wtf. Ryten 1800x plus mobo is the same atm. And if ur cpu gets old just wait for ryzen 3 in 2019 and switch the 1800x
