Find a cheap/used Rampage V Extreme.

It's the only X99 board that's worth it.

Yeah, I wouldn't go for a platform like X99 in the place where it is now, where E5 v3 xeons and the i7s haven't quite gotten cheap yet (not like the original 2011 has). Ryzen 7 + b350 would be a better deal, and it's not like you're able to save by going with DDR3 on X99.

But, if you're determined to get X99, Asus was a pretty good board partner for X99. Rampage VI extreme was a good board, and so was the X99 deluxe (original), but as someone who got it for $120 on ebay - it has problems. There are reports all over the place of usb issues. Some ports just stop working for no apparent reason and the driver doesn't recognize that they exist. These kinds of usb and peripheral issues were rampant on most of the first generation X99 boards as well, but the x99 deluxe seemed to be a pretty bad case because asus hastily loaded to the max with usb ports. The platform took many bios updates to become stable, and even then, it started to become questionable whether Intel really gave a rat's ass about their enthusiast market. They did fix most of the issues on the Broadwell-E tuned second revision boards like the Deluxe II and Rampage VI extreme 10th anniversary though. Neither of the boards you linked are the second revision.
