Should I upgrade my CPU or Motherboard or both?

This query is regarding whether I should upgrade my CPU or Motherboard or both or none:

Current CPU - i7 3770

Current MotherBoard - Intel DH61WW 

RAM - 16GB DDR3

GTX 1060 6GB.

I'm planning to replace the above components with -

CPU - i5 8400

Motherboard - Z370 motherboard (Asus or Gigabyte)

RAM - 16GB DDR4

Graphics remains the same as current one.

 

My computer usage mostly comprises of gaming (my style lies somewhere between casual and enthusiast gamer). 

Should I replace my current rig with all the planned components or am I good for at least next 2 years?

I would not recomment going from a I7 to a I5 tbh. Personally I'd only replace the CPU if you can get away with it and save the $$ for a bigger upgrade in 2 years. Also you may want to think of looking at AMD combos my AMD 8150 plus Mobo cost my $235 USD and WITHOUT OCing I'm at 4.0Ghz and it has yet to hit something it can't handle.

Then unless something is wrong or you need more multi-threaded performance from like Ryzen 5 or 7, there's no reason to spend money yet.

3770 outperforms 8150 in everything. 8400 performs better than a 3770. Even without overclocking, you get 2 more cores and the newer architecture.

Um nope as this was just months after release (so a few years ago) and I have it OCed to 5.4Ghz with MAX temp of 62 on full load 48/hr. Plus there is plenty of other factors that honestly not going into.

can't remember but it was beating out 20 core xeon

Can't remember but basically was beating everything at the time except for extreme OC and extreme high-end xeon but was beating 20 core xeon easily though.

 

If I'm remembering right it was high 800's to mid 950

at 5.4GHz? My Xeon X5670 from 2010 beats it easily, 1009 in cinebench @ 4.44GHz

well than early 2010 is when I got it. I buy so much hardware for testing and others it's hard to remember what I have and when I got it as I usually get them cheap or free.

3770 to 8400 is a small upgrade, go for 8700 imho if you have to.

 

Your pc's perfectly fine for 60hz gaming aside from a select few games.
