Driven mad.  Correction,  just sitting in my office ticked off like a spoiled toddler. Installed an nvme onto a pci-e adapter,  then into the pci-e x4 slot on my msi 970 mobo. In cmd, I cleaned the disk,  converted it to mbr. In disk manager i made simple volume.  In my bios i pointed to boot from usb first, then the ADATA ASX7000NP-512GT-C XPG SX7000, no matter what I do,  I cannot install Windows 10 to the ssd? I've tried a cheap cloning program.  Cloned my SanDisk ssd to my nvme, unplugged the SanDisk,  was asked to insert a bootable drive.  Somebody save me

Which board? There's quite a few.

It's likely that your BIOS doesn't have NVMe compatibility for booting. It has some NVMe compatibility since it's recognized or maybe the adapter has it's own storage controller driver thing? You could patch it in yourself because I highly doubt MSI has a new BIOS out for it.

I'm not even sure NVME BIOS modifications are possible for such an old board.

Most mods involve pulling the surprisingly modular elements out of one UEFI and inserting them into another.  Pre UEFI stuff on the other hand, it's likely not even possible.
