How do I record in higher FPS than 60 on the Panasonic G85 for better slow-mo?

I don't have the G85. I'm looking at the specs sheets seeing that it doesn't have any slow-motion capabilities besides 60 fps.

The a6300 or more expensive cameras like the GH5 are the ones doing 120fps. If you want more slow mo you have to buy one of those. However I don’t see why 120fps is that important. Yes it looks cool at times but if you really need it you will have to invest some money to get a good rig.

As far as I know, the only dslr’s or mirrorless doing 120fps 1080p is these:

  • Sony A6300
  • Sony A6500
  • Sony A9
  • Sony A7r iii
  • Sony A7s ii
  • Canon 1Dx ii
  • Panasonic GH5
  • Panasoinc GH5s

As you can see, they are all quite expensive and to use them properly you need some good gear to go along too.

Just one 64gb SD card that is fast enough will run you around $50, and with one you wont get far. So it’s at least $100 in just SD cards. Then a decent lens will cost maybe $500 depending some. You can of course buy a very expensive one but I have a hard time seeing you finding much that would make the cameras justice for under $500.

So what I’m trying to say, if you really need/want 1080p 120fps you have to be willing to invest around $1500-2000 at least.

Hello, I am looking into buying the Panasonic G85 and saw that even at lower than 1080p resolutions, the camera still shot at a maximum framerate of 60 FPS. I feel that this may be an issue when I want to do slow-motion in my videos and I am asking if it is possible to get the Panasonic G85 to film at higher than 60 FPS on lower resolutions.

No.

Why do you think it says "60" on the lower resolutions?

If it could do higher it would say 90 or 120 or whatever.

i just used the G85 for a wedding last week. i can confirm that it can not shoot faster than 60fps on any resolution

1080p 60fps is more than enough for MOST scenarios.

what are you planning on shooting ?

I'm asking if there's a modded firmware hack or something to get higher FPS on lower resolutions.

I'm planning on shooting really fast motion like a gun or dropping things. I was curious because the samsung galaxy s8+ can shoot some epic slo-mo.

Well, if they write 60p as highest there is a reason. And even if there was a firmware hack I would not use it. Things like overheating or all kinds of issues could come up and you would have voided your warranty.

But it probably wouldn't be so bad if the resolution was at 720p at 120 FPS.

Dude, I've seen your youtube channel, and frankly with a nice camera like the G85 I was expecting a lot better. Instead on focusing on getting more expensive and better cameras try focusing on the cinematic and video quality. It's not the camera that makes the video it's the cameraman. If I were you I'd sell the G85, buy a d3300 or nx300 for cheap, and save the extra money.

Why would you start out with an expensive camera then if you can barely film? If I can't persuade you maybe this will.
