LG vs Samsung

I've been wanting to upgrade to an LG v30 from my Samsung galaxy s4. The s4 started to get slow and laggy after 1 year that i had it. I wanted to know is LG phones slow down as bad as Samsung does. I don't really want to buy a phone and then a year later have it running slow. I've also heard that Samsung uses the TLC type of flash storage and that doesn't run as long as the other types. Hopefully LG doesn't use the same type of storage as Samsung does.

I don't think I'd go for the V30. It's lacking in a lot of areas, sadly.

Don't get the V30. it reminds me a lot of older Samsung phones (which you're desperately trying to get away from) -- the hardware is pretty damn good, but the software IMO is unbearable. plus, it's pretty expensive for what it is, the camera really isn't that great, there's tons of bloat, updates are slow, etc.

 

I'd recommend the OnePlus 5T if you're on a GSM network, the Huawei honor 7X if you're on a budget and are on a GSM network, and the pixel 2 XL (or moto X4 for cheaper) if you're on Verizon. sprint users are pretty much fucked, so I hope you're not one of them.

I honestly don't think there's any non-TLC NAND used in phones at this point. It really is just a few select SATA and NVMe SSDs nowadays that don't use TLC

Phones do not "slow down" over time its just that new OS updates become heavier and have more processes running in the background, the manufacturer often chooses to not make any changes to Google's interactive governor and the scaling goes to whack. IMHO I don't think that new phones would suffer from this because even at their lowest freq. they are pretty fast! I think the LG V30 is great myself but you should know about the screen burn-in issue and the lack of back light uniformity at low brightness, this however doesn't make it a "bad" phone but is one major factor that you should consider before making your purchase. I still think the LG V30 is way better than the current Samsung phones if you are willing to give up screen "quality" for better audio and performance all around. Phone batteries are the only parts that can"degrade" over time, and if you hate having frame drops down the line then you have the option to use a more suitable governor that scales well to your use case scenario.

TL;DR

Lag comes from OS becoming heavy, you can prevent it by changing governor options (make your cpu work harder)

The LG V30 would have been the "perfect" phone for most users if not for the screen issues (burn in, backlight)

Phone batteries degrade over time so you might want your cpu to be at lower freq (at the cost of lag spikes)

Pick the phone you like the most both are great options and won't struggle to run any application!

I think you should try Huawei/Honor if you want to avoid slow downs simply but it has a custom file system that Huawei claims will keep 80% of the out of the box performance! :3
