1080 ti substitute?

samuel990705

Hey guys,

Been trying to get my hands on the Asus Strix 1080 ti for quite a while, but it just seems to always be out of stock. I was wondering are there any substitutes? I am willing to go for something pricier. Perhaps something from the Titan series?

I will mainly be gaming on this desktop, and would like to do SLI and water-cooling in the future.

Thank you <3

The Titan XPs would probably be your best bet. They don't seem to have been hit as hard by the mining craze and are often found for cheaper than the inflated 1080 ti costs.

The Titan Xp direct from nVidia goes for $1200 and is in stock.

Other than that... good luck.

Still not a great idea, but if you need a GPU now, you need a GPU now.

The 2016 Titan XP is basically equally as fast, but you’ll have to find one used. Either than that you only have one other card the $1200 Titan Xp, which is faster than a 1080 ti.

Why isn't a great idea? Are there any drawbacks using the Titan Xp vs 1080 ti?

It's just expensive is all. Nothing wrong with them.

It's just insane that it's the card that makes the most sense right now.

Literally insane. But these are the times we are in.

Do they perform better than the 1080 ti's though?

Just buy a GT 1030 or Ryzen APU and wait until next gen GPUs come out

SLI is a waste of money

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Going with the newer titan xp will net you better fps by a small margin and an extra gig of RAM

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

Titan Xp is cheaper (currently) and technically faster and uses pretty much the same power usage (I have both, 2 Gallactic Empire Xp's in one computer and 2 1080ti's in the other one) I bought the Titan Xp's a few weeks ago because of the fact the 1080ti's where more expensive.

Will the price of 1080 ti drop anytime soon? They still come on stock once in a while, they just get picked up in literally seconds.

yeah, when the actual stores get them instock there will be more reasonably priced 1080ti's, it's just a matter of how long you can wait, if you can wait I would.

$1200 would allowed me to build a full system with a i5 , add, and a 970 a few years back.

you could try a second hand deal on the TITAN X Pascal (2016 revision) as well.

Maybe wait until after GDC to see if volta is coming and just have your card ready if they announce a release date...

But yea, agree with the Titan XP as that's honestly the only option right now...
