Have old VGA Monitor and a GTX 960 with only HDMI ports

Kamunkin
Go to solution Solved by mariushm,

You'll have to buy a HDMI to VGA or DisplayPort to VGA (if your card has DisplayPort connector) converters.  If you don't like eBay, Amazon also has lots of models from all kind of sellers.

Since I guess you're in Canada, here's some links for around 10-15 Canadoodles and free shipping

1. https://www.amazon.ca/Rankie-Gold-Plated-Active-Adapter-Converter/dp/B00ZMV7RL2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1516737450&sr=8-3&keywords=hdmi+to+vga+adapter+converter

2. https://www.amazon.ca/VicTsing-Gold-plated-Converter-Ultrabook-Devices-Black/dp/B016LVT51G/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1516737450&sr=8-4&keywords=hdmi+to+vga+adapter+converter

2a . https://www.amazon.ca/VicTsing-Version-Gold-Plated-Adapter-Converter/dp/B0758BDGJH/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1516737450&sr=8-7&keywords=hdmi+to+vga+adapter+converter

3. https://www.amazon.ca/VicTsing-Adapter-Female-Converter-Digital/dp/B01NASJ72Q/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1516737450&sr=8-5&keywords=hdmi+to+vga+adapter+converter

There may be cheaper ones but you have to pay attention to  be fullfilled by Amazon .. that means the products are physically in their warehouses so you'll get them fast.

Lots of other sellers list such products on Amazon but after you order, they ship them to you from China which may take weeks to arrive.

Is there anything I can do to make my monitor work? I wish to use it to watch stuff while I'm gaming or working.. Not feeling the need of buying a new monitor.

I read that I need some kind of converter?? But that I need it to be a certain way and from there I got lost. There must be someone that knows how this stuff work here? Hopefully x)

Thanks for your help :)

Since hdmi is digital and VGA is analog, you'd need an active converter cable/box which is probably not as cheap as just some cable. Maybe your motherboard has dvi/VGA onboard you could use?

HDMI to VGA adapters are pretty cheap. I use a $5 comverter like this one and it works just fine.

Welp okay, in that case just get this, lol.

*EVERYONE IN THE THREAD SUGGESTING ACTIVE HDMI TO VGA ADAPTORS*

Hrm...

*Googles 'EVGA GTX 960 SSC' and see's that the card clearly has a DVI-I Dual Link port*

I think the problem is that everyone took the threat's title at face value.  The EVGA GTX 960 SSC does not 'Only have HDMI ports' but rather has ONE HDMI Port, three DP ports, and one DVI-I DL port.  So the answer is: Just use a bog standard, $1.00, passive, DVI-I to VGA pinout adaptor.

Somewhere under the title, it says " and Fulfilled by Amazon. " .

What is Fulfilment by Amazon?

Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) is a service we offer sellers that lets them store their products in Amazon's fulfilment centres, and we directly pack, ship, and provide customer service for these products. Something we hope you'll especially enjoy: FBA products qualify for FREE Shipping

He has one monitor that's 144 Hz / fps and that means he needs to use the DVI connector for it, because HDMI is limited to 60fps. Maybe that monitor has no DisplayPort connector, so he HAS to use DVI if he wants more than 60 fps.

So basically buy either HDMI to VGA or DisplayPort to VGA active converters , depending on what's available on the video card.
