The guys over at Hot Hardware managed to get their hands on the latest laptop, a Dell XPS 15 2 in 1, running a Intel 8th gen Core i7 based on the kaby Lake G architecture  featuring AMD's Radeon VEGA M graphics. This was compared to an Acer Swift 3, with a Nvidia MX 150 graphics, also equipped with a Intel 8th gen processor, although not Kaby Lake G, but Kaby Lake R.

We've got some results from multiple Rise of the Tomb Raider benchmark runs to give you all a taste of what the Radeon RX Vega M GL GPU can do. The XPS 15 2-In-1 we tested here was configured with a Core i7-8705G processor (3.1GHz base, 4.1GHz boost), the aforementioned Radeon RX Vega M GL graphics engine, 16GB of DDR4 memory, and an ultra-fast NVMe SSD.

Running at 1920x1080 resolution, the XPS 15 2-in-1 was able to maintain an average frame rate of nearly 35 frames per second with High image quality settings dialed in (29.69 on Very High in the video above). Not bad, for a roughly 4.5 pound machine that measures only 16 mm thick. Compared to a similar 8th Gen Core system with Intel's own integrated UHD 620 graphics, it was no contest. Even on Medium quality settings, the Intel UHD 620 was only able to manage about 8 frames per second. In fact, Intel's own 8th Gen IGP can't even run the game on High IQ because it runs out of frame buffer memory.

Cool.

Also there are rumors of Vega 64 and 56 to come in gaming laptops.

So my current XPS 15 9550 has a GTX 960m, which is supposedly 15 to 20% faster than the MX150, and in this benchmark the Vega M beats the MX150 by about 25%, so that means VEGA M is about as or slightly faster than the GTX 960m, while being lower power consumption and thinner.

I am conducting some polls regarding your opinion of large technology companies. I would appreciate your response.

Microsoft Apple Valve Google Facebook Oculus HTC AMD Intel Nvidia

I'm using this data to judge this site's biases so people can post in a more objective way.

And while being an APU, 960m perf in integrated solution is pretty awesome.

I'd be more inclined than usual to hear more about laptop cooling solutions being used on these APUs.  It's more important than usual; especially if the training wheels are taken off to enable OC'ing on both GPU and CPU cores.
