What makes a topic get HOT on the forum

if you look at some posts you will see that it may be hot but how is a topic given this because some topic put under HOT don't seem to be getting more replies then a normal Topic

It depends on how much lava is in the topic.  A flame war will also heat it up until it gets too hot to handle.

Grab any "negative" news about apple, or a positive news and give it a negative spin, it will become hot news in this forum.
