Almost identical in resolutions below 4k. In 4k the extra 2GB of ram on the 1070 helps it pull ahead a little.

Yeah, for now it would just be fore 1080p but I do plan on getting 1440 monitor soon. So in general at that res, they are similiar/same?

I'd just get the 980Ti. Should be quite a bit cheaper, and more than enough to handle 1080p.

Then you can upgrade something else. Or have more ale money.

So considering that a used 980ti is ROUGHLY 300-340 and a 1070 is around 400+ with one with an add-in cooler, i think that performance is ABOUT the same price-to-performance wise

The 980 Ti is only just abit faster with similar overclocks on each card.

Just get the 1070. Save yourself the trouble of trying to cool the power hungry 980 Ti.

Realistically there are no pro's to buying the 980 Ti over the 1070 for your average gaming.

Might as well call the performance similar overall. 1070 is more expensive, but 980ti generates more heat.

So, I was curious if anyone knew how these cards stack up? I wouldnt mind just getting a 980ti, powersupply is beefy enough, purely just performance, how does it stack up? Prices are AROUND the same general area

They are effectively identical at 1080p and 1440p. The 980ti lacks a bit of VRAM and consumes more power, but in terms of pure performance at 1080p and 1440p they're more or less the same.If you can snag a 980ti for like $300 while 1070's are sitting above $400 I'd go for it. Bank the money and use it to get a 2080 in winter 2019 while the 2080ti comes out and the 2080 drops in price.

that lack of Vram is going to bite you in the back if you are trying to play heavily modded games like fallout 4 or skyrim. Also 1070 is newer architecture and will have better support in the future. They both have identical performances. Just go with the 1070, unless you get a sweet deal off that 980 Ti.

Microsoft in there infinite wisdom have decided to impose a VRAM cap for games the that use DX9 o.O. May God Bless them those whoever came up with that idea.

Well, price wise a used 980TI is about $250 and a new 1070 $400, they perform about the same so I'd say save the money and get the 980TI

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)
