The 8700 will be better in every situation besides bleeding edge high FPS gaming vs a OCed 7700k, assuming you have a 144hz screen.

Which one would you get if you could get any of them for the same price? 
Would appreciate some help because i need to decide asap..

Whoops, thought I saw K for both. I would still go for the 8700 though.

any particular reason for that though? because from what I understand you can overclock the 7700k and make it stronger than the 8700 in terms of FPS ingame

that may be true but the 8700 will be 30-50% faster in multi threaded workloads.

8700 sweeps the floor with the i7 7700k.

 

The i7 7700k is comparable to an i5 8400.

 

There is no rocket science in here, 6 of the best cores(8th gen) is better than 4 of the second best cores(7th gen).

yep , attempting to go pro at overwatch pretty much requires an 144hz monitor :D , thanks alot everyone!
