How to move os from hdd to ssd

I just got a 240gb crucial bx300 ssd. I'm looking to transfer my os to this ssd from my hdd. I've looked at guides and stuff online, but they only seem to show how to transfer my whole hdd to my ssd. Is it possible to transfer just my OS over, and if so, how? Thanks

Just reinstall the OS, it's quick and easy plus it eliminates the garbage that's on the HDD.

You could "clone" it, but not sure if it works with HDDs and SSDs together.

Unless you want a bunch of issues that will force you to reinstall windows, you should just clean install windows in the first place.

Is there anything else I need to do? When I do a fresh install will it wipe both drives I have installed? Or will it just go onto the ssd and leave the hdd untouched?

It will just format the drive you choose to install it on, although I would remove the HDD just so you don't accidentally select it.

You should unplug all drives except the one you're installing on.

After installing windows you can plug your HDD back in to access stuff like documents, music, etc. but programs need to be reinstalled.

I would recommend moving documents/music/videos and that kind of stuff to the SSD or other temporary place, then formatting the HDD using windows disk management to remove all the old partitions.

Then you have a clean HDD that you can use for whatever you want.

Hello,

 

Different question.

 

Currently I have a WD 3TB HD with Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit.

 

I'd like to install that onto a new motherboard , video card , ect..

 


This is the only drive I have.

What's the best way of being able to use the current drive as the OS? I'd like to keep my files and everything.

 

I do understand that new drivers will need to be installed since new equipment..
