Don't go crossfire.

1060 6GB and RX 580 4GB, depends on the price.

I would actually aim for the RX 580 8GB but again, price...

If prices are the same for the RX 580 4GB and the 1060 6GB and the 1060 6GB has a decent cooler, get the 1060 6GB.

If there's an RX 580 8GB available for the same price as a 1060 6GB, get that.

If you aren't sure, post prices and what card it exactly is.

If you want my attention, quote meh! D: or just stick an @samcool55 in your post :3

Get the GTX 1060, the performance matches the RX 580 but with a lower CPU overhead (you'll experience less bottlenecking).

Do not consider Crossfire, that has issues. Go with the RX 580 if you plan to upgrade the CPU (which would be a great idea, something like i7 2600K).

Run some benchmarks, play some games and see which one performs best. I think its the the best way to determine which one should you use.

If you have them laying around why do you ask all those silly questions instead of using this time to make the necessary tests? ;) (no hate)

my expirience:

Crossfire is shit, great in games that support, but utterly useless imho so that leaves 280x off the table.

Rx580 > performs close with the 1060, 4gb version slightly less than a 1060-6gb, the 8gb version slightly better

1060 > 6gb version, overclocks nice, stable never had a stability/driver issue like with the amd stuff

Umm, if you have all those cards just "hanging around" what about selling them and getting something like a 1080? Or even a 1080Ti.

1060's should sell for at LEAST 200 bucks, same for that rx 580, gives you at least 800 bucks which should be enough for a 1080ti.

edit: and sell that CPU, mobo and ram as well and get something like an r5 1600 with a 1080 or whatever. That would be a damn good gaming system :P

Maybe yes, maybe no ;) There's nothing better that the real life performance test and that I would encourage you to do ;) If not today/tomorrow then during the weekend maybe :)

id say first off forget low-end crossfire. its not worth it and has way to many issues with dirvers and crap.

then since your other options are pretty close id say what monitor you have could decide. if you got freesync then get the 580. if not get the 1060. but me personally id go and grab a used 980/980 TI or RX 480 8GB

:D every time. every god damn time. i dont know why im surprised anymore.

sont get me wrong its a valid point.

its just that every time its just a matter of time until someone doesnt suggest the offered options but suggests rather to sell everything and get something completly different.

e.g. "should i go amd for freesync or get nvidia and have more fps?" - "sell the freesync monitor and get a g-sync plus 1080"

:D thats just funny to me. again not tying to offend you or mock your point its valid but...

In my experience, some games will have improvements because they are well optimized, while others will have no difference, and some will perform worse. More games perform worse than not because they weren't designed for it, and you end up getting really bad flashing from lighting effects as well as other graphics anomalies. I've finally got Ghost Recon working fine, but too me a while to get there. It was pretty gnarly.

Set up crossfire and see for yourself.

I suggested it because OP told us he has the cards laying around. Sounds to me they are on a shelf eating dust doing nothing.

It makes more sense to me then to sell them and just get something better than OP has currently available.

Sometimes not bothering with what you have but selling it and getting something else is a better solution for the problem.

To me a 1060 6GB rig with 2 similar cards on a shelve eating dust sounds like a worse idea than selling all 3 and getting a 1080 for example.

SA2, or the big 'O's? anyways, get the exam done first, then muck around with the hardware. use the 1060 6gb for now, once the exams are done you can try crossfire and see how it performs.

With that much cards, I would honestly sell all of them and buy a 1070/1080 since you want to go hard on mods on QHD. I'd sell your PC and get a new rig, you'd have quite a bit of left over money from selling cards.

The 580 is probably faster irl than a 1060 but I would not buy any 4 or 3 GB card anymore so if you can find a 580 8G geit it. Otherwise get the 1060 6G. Also don't get a crappy cooler for the 580. For the 1060 it won't matter as much as it draws way less power.

1070 is a pretty bad buy right now. New, most cards will run $450-500. That's 1070Ti territory, which can perform better than a 1080 reference when overclocked.

Currently 1070Ti in some places is in 1080 territory pricing so it's even less worth it than a 1070, which is still a lot cheaper (in some places) than a 1070Ti.

I guess it depends on location. Here in the Netherlands, most 1070s are €470-500 now, where a 1070Ti from EVGA can be had for €489. 1080s start around €530-ish up to 600+

For those games, I'd use the 1060.  But you should try them all out and see how it goes.  Otherwise, you could sell them all as well as your CPU and get better ones if you can lol.
