Buy 8700k or wait for Icelake?

So I have been wanting to upgrade my cpu for a little while now ( I have a 3770k). After the 8700k came out, I wanted to buy it, but I don’t want to jump the gun and have the Icelake cpus be released right after. Anyone know anything about the release date of Icelake, and if you do, do you think I should just wait?

Well... it just came out... I think this is getting ridiculous to be honest. It's like if the 1080ti did not even come out yet and someone was already asking if they should wait for the 20 series..

If you continually sit around and wait for every next platform, you will be waiting forever. I bought Kaby Lake when it came out in January, and I'm not disappointed despite the release of Coffee Lake within the same year. What CPU do you have now? If it's 2nd Gen Intel or newer, you should keep what you have.

The real question to ask yourself is, are you having any issues with your current set up, if so, do they significantly impact the usability of your rig. If yes, I'd just pull the trigger.

 

In other words, do you NEED to upgrade or can you wait?

if you're a gamer your CPU is still very good upgrade your graphics card if you want more performance unless you already have a 1080ti in which case get a new monitor unless you already own a 144hz 1440p Gsync monitor in which case get an oculus rift.

As soon as you can say "I love caffeine! Can't be without it!" get Coffee Lake.

 

If you can't stand caffeine and say "Hey I need to become really cool!" wait for Ice Lake
