Depends on what you're using it for.

If you're in a corporate enviroment, dragging critical files between machines you surely don't want anyone withing your network to scoop out those packets.

the idea of SSL encryption being for buisiness folks is that some stuff you may be punching into your keyboard could be sniffed off the network, and in buisinesses that information could be very sensitive, and the chance is relatively high that there's someone there who would have potential malicious intent.
