M.2 failing

First time having a storage issue ever. 
Says to back it up but not really having the option to boot into windows or anything involving the drive. 
 

No real at home fixes for this before I head to the store?

 

The 1tb Samsung is the one having the issue.

I've personally never run into this before. I'm assuming that it's reading a SMART code and preventing you from booting and causing additional damage?

Works going into the windows install usb. When I tried that with the drive still in, it was an orange screen with white lines. Didnt do anything either, just a cmd line blinking that stopped.

your drive is probably already toast.  I just had a samsung do this recently, and CrystalDiskInfo showed it at only ~20TBW.

 

There's a very non-zero chance you'll be able to recover most of the data off the failed drive, and then you can RMA it for replacement.

If you are lucky. The drive is in read only mode ( to prevent data loss ), but you can’t boot windows it that state.

I see you have two ssd, one intel 660p 2TB, and one 970 evo plus 1TB, where do you have your os at, and were is the data?

The 970 is the mbr. And the data that I’d prefer to have is on it. But can’t have them both in given the rad placement. 
Thinking of getting an m.2 to usb and try some recover methods that way.

you will likely need to replace it and instal os on the new ssd. ( as it’s probably out of warranty ). 
then you can get the data from Samsung l if that’s the only pc you have )

No the samsung is the os drive and the one that failed. 
The external enclosure worked. Long enough to get what I needed anyway.

CAn you post a screenshot of crystaldiskinfo whole SMART table of the samsung 970 evo ? (I would like to see what failed)
there are two hardwear version of it, and the newer one have different controller, and 128l TLC samsung nand (that likes to fail, we see it fail in 870 evo, and 980 all the time, they scrapped whole nand node, and replace it with compatibile 133l TLC, and they shipp all the new SSD with it)

Good enough, copy the data out while you can, SSD data recovery is unbelievably difficult and Samsung is the worst.

It's the 3B2QEXM7 Firmware, do the new hardware version, with Elpis controller, and the problematic 128l TLC V6 samsung NAND)

And as in 980, and 870 evo, the NAND failed, and you used up all the spare nand blocks, while having almost no wear on the NAND (2% of the TBW). 
Typical 128l TLC nand failure, as we see here once or more a month. ( it's spare blocks exhaustion, so no problem getting the data back)

I'm wondering, why it hasn't blown up yet, like with the 980 pro, and 990 pro drama. Like it's been over a year (will have to double check, when it started), and nothing.

They fixed it in the newly produced SSD, they use fixed 133l TLC NAND, but lots of people, have already bought SSD with the 128l TLC, not aware of the problem. 
And it's physical, they literally changed the architecture of the NAND to fix it.

Then how is data recovery better with other SSD makers? Do you have an example?

Samsung controllers are heavily encrypted, making debug difficult and replacement impossible. If the controller doesn’t boot, recovery is impossible. Even if it boots, recent ones aren’t supported by most DR tools. 
 

Other SSDs are much better, there are professional DR tools or even factory tools around for you to debug and dump the data then repair the data logically.
