why sometimes when I'm watching a twitch stream at Source quality I get buffering

while in youtube I have no problems at all .

 

I want to buy a Netflix subscription that's why I'm asking .

Connection speed of the streamer, latency, distance from the server, and more can all play a factor in why something buffers.

I've got 300 Mbps down and I still get buffering just because of issues on the other end.

 

Another factor is the amount of data being buffered. YouTube might try to load and buffer 30% of a long video, or an entire short video, while twitch can't really buffer much of anything so if any issues arise along the way to you then it can cut out and cause buffering.

With Twitch the issue isn't always your end, it could be the streamers end, especially when looking at source, its not encoded to make it easier on the viewer

really? wow, I didn't realize their bitrate was that low

I would have said 20 was the min for 1080p

Yah, it's pretty low  

I know really high end 4K footage can range upwards of 100Mbps+

Even youtube's 4K (60 fps mind you though) is like 40 - 50 iirc

Yah, I think generally Netflix suggests 25Mbps for their 4K but I've seen it lower.

Netflix 4k content uses about 7GB of data an hour. So 7168MB devided by 60 for 119.46MB, lets say 120MB, per minute, that equates to downloading aproximatly 2MB per second, a 20-30MBPS connection is more than ample.

First month is free anyway so you wont loose anything if it does not work.

 

Also 4k Netflix has some specific requirements on PC like HDCP 2.2 connection, Netflix Windows App or Microsoft Edge and specific intel CPUs or Nvidia GPUs.

Netflix is using a quite advanced process to determine the best bitrate for a given resolution and frame rate.

The highest bitrate I have ever seen for 1080p24 is 7.5 Mbit/s. e.g TWD S7E1

On the other hand content like Mindhuter (S1E2) is streaming at 1.7 Mbit/s for 1080p24

 

If you multiply these values by 4 you are somewhere between 8-32 Mbit/s for 4k
