I7-8700K or I5-8600K?

I'm gaming at 144 hertz in 1440p using a 1080ti GPU, should I get a I7-8700K CPU or a I5-8600K to play AAA titles and record gameplay? Also, which motherboard should I get that has built in WiFi and is less than $200 if possible? Thanks.

id say 8600k, from what i know 8700k is just 6 more threads which will help if you do productivity but the 8600k would be just fine

Pretty much. I mean if budget isnt an issue, the 8700k does fair marginally better sometimes, but the price difference for the bump will be up to you.

watch that to get an accurate detail of how you can see whichever CPU you choose perform and pick the one you like best.

Which of these would you recommend? I don't really know what I want out of a Mobo other than to hold everything together as long as it has WiFi I'm good.

I'm admittedly an Asus fanboy so I'd say get the Asus ROG STRIX Z370-G Gaming (WI-FI AC) Micro ATX motherboard. It's got all the features you would need and mATX boards mean you can get a smaller mATX case. That's my opinion.

@Brony For gameplay an 8600k would be more than enough, but since you're also recording I recommend the i7.

Not long ago i7 7700k was the best for gaming.

Now i5 8600k is better in single and multi-core performance than 7700k.

 

i5 8600k is more than enough for gaming and even some productivity.

Sure 8700k will be better in multi-threaded cases (not exactly gaming), but it costs 120$ more, produces more heat, using more power, and it usually won't OC as far as 8600k because of thermal problems.

 

I have ordered my 8600k and will update here in 10 days once it arrives to me for testing.

But my opinion stands ... if gaming is what you do mostly, get 8600k since it will benefit you with 6 strong cores and no weak threads from hyperthreading technology.

I'm going for the 8600k myself for gaming and some productivity tasks. It outperforms the 7700k when overclocked, is cooler (marginally if you don't delid), and is cheaper.

 

Then again, I will be forced to get Ryzen soon if my chip doesn't show up before Xmas...
