So I have become a bit annoyed that so many rant about how bad windows 8/8.1 is, and i totally disagree and here is why.

To be clear I am not really Pro User, i represent more like the average Gamer/PC user :)

I spend a lot of time on my PC, and I enjoy fast and easy navigation,

basically i am lazy so ill always make everything as easy to use as possible,

and here is where Windows 8.1 comes in ;)

First reason: Shit no start Button! fear not!

There are some good 3rd party Start buttons out there and i've been through 4 off them.

3 which is free: ClassicShell, StartW8 and StartButton8. all great considering they are free. they give you a start menu which do not take you to the modern UI

and the last and best StartisBack, which cost a small amount, 1 pc=2.99 2pc=4.99 as by now, i think i paid 2.99 for 2 PCs.

StartIsBack is awesome! fully integrated into Windows 8 and you have just what windows 7 offered + customization! (include disabling the different windows 8 hot corners)

post-15981-0-22216200-1386363860_thumb.p

Second reason: "Hot Corners" some of them is actually handy :)

With multiple monitors you can easily switch between different screen set-ups, in the right hot bar, you have to press two times and just choose what you need.

Great and simple for watching movies on a TV you just plugged in! I use it pretty often :)

post-15981-0-97589800-1386363871_thumb.p

If you leave the left down corner be you can right click for quick way to most of the important windows "features" I lack a better word ;)

post-15981-0-66363100-1386363867.png

Sorry for the language, here's translation:

Programs and Features

power Management
System log
Device Manager
Network Connections
Disk Management
Computer Management
command Prompt
Command prompt (administrator)
Job List
Control
pathfinder
search
run
close computer, or sign of
desk

Third Reason: I hate the modern UI! ohh Wait you can Ignore it? :0

Yes, its actually possible to pretty much never see the modern UI (i seriously forgot what it is called :D

With StartisBack you can set Desktop as your primary and in 8.1 you can right click on the taskbar and set it to Desktop at boot.

in windows 8 you have to use utility, and most start button apps have that feature :)

And If you like the modern UI well thats great, One more Feature for you! :)

Fourth Reason: Windows 7 is better For Gaming because It has a start button! well no..

Windows 8.1 comes with the updated Directx 11.2! :0

I know many dont like Directx, but that is what we got, and what makes Windows best supported gaming platform, For Now..

11.2 should improve upon dx 11 and the fact that windows 8 takes up more of you system power should give improvements as well

Sorry for the long post, just wanted to get this out of my head, hope it changes someone attitude to Windows 8, its not all bad! :)

ohh and i am a long time Win 7 user, i felt the same way when i first got win 8 on my laptop some time ago but I got used to it! now i have it on my desktop too and it is great! :D

And please do tell me if im wrong about something!

I have a love hate relationship with 8/8.1

I have it on my laptop and the performance is too varied. The startup time is always variable, sometimes it loads up and the trackpad gestures are not available for a few minutes. sometimes the internet loads slow. I can't stand the variability.

seems like the people that have spent the time to get to know windows 8  really like the update to the Operating System. And the people that don't.... well you know the rest.

I still haven't converted because I haven't had the need too!

But it's good to read a helpful review from time-to-time

"I don't like Win 8 cause... I just don't"

had that same problem with my brother too, only difference i won and he bought a laptop with win 8! :D

well the difference between the two is not that big that it will be $100 worth i think, you don't have to upgrade if you dont want to, but people should not rant about it if they haven't used it in a extended period of time :)

Same here :P

So basically:

Windows 8 is awesome!

Let's ignore half of its core features and use third party alternatives.

The fact that you need to use third party alternatives to get around core features shows how much Microsoft screwed up with the overall design and usability of Windows 8, the biggest of which was not including both the Start menu AND Metro UI, giving the user the choice of either one or  both.

Previously, I was on the bandwagon of hating Windows 8/8.1. When I actually started to play with it a bit I don't think it's all that bad. Sure, the only thing I get piss off at is the Skype. But performance for 8.1 is phenomenal. I load Windows within 8 seconds with my SSD.

I still maintain win 8 has suffered the Ja Ja binks treatment,  one or two internet personalities have made a joke about it, said how they hate it because no start button and suddenly everyone jumps on the hate bandwagon because they don't want to be seen as the idiot who has no clue.  I am glad people are starting to tell us what they honestly think and not just parroting others.  If you like it great, if you don't no prob it can't please everybody.  But people seem to just call it crap because it's different and requires time to learn the new layout.

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.

Im on my phone so cant use reply to rashdanml

But he has a point :)

Though the only thing im am ignoring is the modern ui but microsoft gave us a choice in 8.1 and modern ui is better optimized for touch and not mouse which i use, so on my desktop there is no compelling reason to use it, but if i should get a pc with touch i would with modern ui over desktop! :)

I like that it i still there and you dont actually have to use it!

All the other features i do still use, i left in all the needed hot corners which i found usefull and ADDED a startbutton, I still use the right hotbar too :)

Would go with win 8.1 over 7 any day!
