The TUF boards aren't quite what they used to be back in the Z170 days. But I would get whichever you like more, both will be great options.

From quickly glancing the two boards, internal I/O appears to be mostly the same, though Prime has a Thunderbolt 3 header and an additional PCIe x1 port (that will be blocked by most graphics cards, anyway). Prime has a bit less rear I/O (missing PS/2 and a few USB ports), though it has a DisplayPort connector if you use integrated graphics. Lastly, Prime has a beefier VRM (8+2 vs 4+2) which can potentially give you a better stable overclock.

 

Asus's site doesn't make sense when it comes to saying what the warranty is. They're saying TUF Gaming has 3 years, but TUF has 5 years. Going off of Amazon and Newegg, the warranty is 5 years for TUF Gaming. Prime Z370-A has only 3 years.

 

All-in-all, they both have their strengths and weaknesses. Prime seems to be the better board overall in features, but the TUF Z370-PRO GAMING board is a bit cheaper, has a longer warranty, and has more rear I/O connectors.

so afaik, they both have the same warranty. But I'll probably end up getting the Prime. or if they release a TUF board with the armour and stuff, I'll get that one in the future

I prefer the look of the old Sabertooth TUF boards  they were the best.

I mean my old Asus Sabertooth Z170 MARK 1 was a beast with tons of options and just overall super high end compared to the new 'TUF' series stuff. I no longer have it but there are things that I wish my new Asus X370 ROG Crosshair VI Hero had that the Sabertooth had.

yeah, the new TUF boards are shit now compared to before  it's a shame really. the armour was what interested me but Z370 has crap ones

Pretty sure I paid like $400cad for it though so it was pricey. But it had a ton of thermal sensors, additional MB cooling for the vrm's and pch, covered m.2 slot, like 8 4-pin fan connectors, easily paintable TUF armor haha, and zero BIOS bugs. I miss that board but I did not need my i7-6700k sitting on an ATX motherboard.

well I live in the UK and Amazon UK doesn't state the warranty length  but OCUK states it has 3 years on all of them, so 3 years I'm guessing.

yeah they were quite pricey but they are good motherboards. I'd take a TUF board over any other to be honest.

I'm happy with the Asus Z270I ROG Gaming ITX motherboard I moved my 6700k to, It's not the Sabertooth Mark 1 but it's a damn good ITX motherboard, I'm impressed with how much they can fit on such a small board. Meanwhile, I would pay $400 again for a Sabertooth Mark 1 equivalent AM4 motherboard for my R7 1700. The Crosshair VI Hero is pretty good, I just don't love it and coming from the Sabertooth, feels like a downgrade.

yeah, the z270 boards are pretty amazing, that's what I would've bought if I went the 7700k route. while we're on this topic, I might get a 7700k instead of the 8700k I ordered just so I can have the Sabertooth boards

Hahaha the Sabertooth Mark 1 is pretty good, but I wouldn't stick to the old platform now that Coffeecake is released purely out of the love for just a motherboard, plus Asus always come out with super sick motherboards for the Intel platform hahahaha
