Will my 500W be able to handle the upgrades?

Gyuwona

Hey guys

I am planning an upgrade of my cpu, mobo + cooler and Im just worried that my psu wont be able to handle it

so the model is a local brand from Korea which actually is quite reputable and famous for its psus, its a powerex rex 3 (I think?) 500W, Ppl say its quite reliable but

would it be able to handle my new system?

new specs will be

Ryzen 5 1400 OR i5 8400 OR i7 7700

B350 OR H310 (I think) OR H110

16GBs of ram

3 Case fans + either one cpu fan OR one pump + fan on rad

GTX 970 with 8+6 pin layout

1 Desktop HDD

1 SDD

2 Laptop HDD

and I am not really pulling power from the usb ports.

fast answer is appreciated :)

Thanks

you MIGHT be able to pull it off, but to even have that gtx 970, nvidia reccons you have at least 500w of power.  It's simple math really,  find what each unit you want consumes, and subtract it from your PSU.  You generally want to have a little buffer room though, unless you like living on the edge.

CPU - 60-120w

GPU - 140w

HD 30w each

Fans 5-10w each

EDIT: I don't know why I read it as you had a 450w PSU.  yeah at 500w, you're fine.

Kinda depends because Ryzen has a lower watt count then AMD and B350 is good at power I think it will make it under these circumstances other then that not sure.

take note however that there will be lower efficiency and the PSU fan would be spinning faster creating more noise. (some PSUs can get annoyingly and distractingly loud)

Your PSU is crap. I don't need to Google to know that as it's a no-name unit. From a quick Googling it appears to be at least 8 years old. You most certainly should not use that with a spend system like yours.

500W are enough for almost anything.

BUT Your PSU is NOT 500W, if you're lucky it's a shitty 400W one or a decent 300-350W.

And the overall quality seems quite low, though It doesn't look that bad. Layout seems rather good.

But overall it's not a good PSU and still a group regulated budget one.

After some research on my own, I have also concluded that its a shit PSU,

I do have the budget to also get a cheap PSU, any recommendations?

I am thinking cooler master or corsair, and these two seem quite attractive.

also imma unplug two of my Laptop HDDs to get some more headroom.

Corsair: http://shop.danawa.com/pc/?controller=estimateDeal&methods=productInformation&productSeq=1793347

I apologize for the fact that the product info are in Korean, Hope you dont mind.

oh and I picked out my own parts cos most arent availiable here in Korea.

Thanks in advance :)

EDIT: according to this thread

the cheaper CM PSU is in a higher tier than the Corsair.

Laptop hard drives use next to no power. Don't worry about "extra headroom" and just get a decent unit in the first place.

And I'd still not get either of those for a GTX 970. Get something like a Corsair CX550, but give us links to where you can buy hardware from.

I buy hardware from danawa.com its a big korean website most people use.

but since it is only offered in Korean, I will also give you the link for specifically the PSU section.

http://prod.danawa.com/list/?cate=112777&logger_kw=ca_main_more

I am expecting to get a PSU lower than 50000 Korean won, but if you tell me to get a better PSU, I will ask my parents for a little extra.

Thanks a bunch!

I am really unfamiliar with a lot of products there. The cheapest PSU I know which is great is the Super Flower Golden Green HX 600W, at 94,000 WON. http://prod.danawa.com/info/?pcode=2406438&cate=112777

I'd wait out for jonnyguru to comment. Andyson, ASUS, Gigabyte, Super Flower, Cougar, Delta, AcBel, In Win... all don't really sell stuff in the US.

That is not what you should base your opinion on. There is a reason why very few websites do proper PSU reviews in which they strip the whole unit inside out. If it could be done with 2 meters in a youtube video on a single game everyone would be doing it.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

yep i understand, but this power supply is not widely used and they can't have reviews on all power supplies. i'm just showing that it certainly isn't some junk.
