I ordered an ath-m50 with a coiled cable on Black Friday; the cable on it almost reaches the back of my PC without stretching at all while I'm wearing them.  I suppose it's better than my chair constantly eating the cable and it gives the freedom of movement of a long cable, but I don't like the way it brushes against my arm when I'm typing or how it is constantly pulling on my head if ever so slightly.  Straight cables at the proper length would be the best imo, which might convince me to do the detachable cable mod that I've heard about.  The can's pads though are just slightly too small to fit completely around my ears comfortably and not quite deep enough; after a while of use the tips of my ears become uncomfortable from the pressure.  Other than that though they seem like a great pair of headphones so far, though I might need to get a good sound card to appreciate these to their full glory; I'm still on integrated sound xD  If I do do the detachable cable mod though I might as well use a 4 conductor cable and use a detachable microphone too :P If only I could find the parts though, if they even exist >.<

That's what the soundcard manufacturers want you to think.

Straight. Remember coiled phone cables? I fucking hated it when they got all tangled up. All the phones in my high school use those still......I HATE IT

There are 10 types of people in this world, those who understand binary, and those who don't.

I left my coiled cable in its bag and so far it hasn't tangled. fingers crossed it stays that way.

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.

That isn't an accurate comparison. The gauge of those cables were thin, as with the plastic covering the wire. I have both guitar cables and headphones that are much thicker with more robust sleeving.

I actually don't mind either coiled or straight. Like with anything, both have their use cases. To minimize the impact of their disadvantages I change how I use them. With straight cables, near the audio jack I loop them around and use a cable tie for the perfect length without worrying about them getting caught in my rolling chair or around furniture. For coiled cable, I use a weight closer to me resting over the cable so I won't feel any tugging.

Yeah, Beyerdynamic's coiled cables on the DT series is fantastic. I almost don't get annoyed by it.

Coiled takes up less space across the desks at work. Also doesn't get as tangled in my kit bag.

You have a kit bag? I am guessing you mean an everyday backpack.

Anyway, I don't take my over ear headphones anywhere so that does not matter to me, its just nice to have a cable that does not get stuck under your chair and stuff.

No, a bag that always goes to work with me. Sparkies tape, gaff, multi tool, pliers, cans, sharpie etc.

I just throw all that into my backpack, too much work to actually carry another bag around with me. I am guessing you need that stuff for your work?
