so i forgot the pc at the other halves only has a 500w psu so no pushing the benches for me XD though i did manage to churn out a 19k score with my 4930K

current rig: Xeon W-3175X at 4.7GHz all core 1.25v and 3200MHz cache, EVGA SR3 Dark, 48gb of tridentZ 4133 Cl19 (A0 PCB) running 4000MHz 16 16 16 34 1T, 6900XT aorus master with an EK waterblock, 1440mm custom loop, corsair HX1500i, 2x256gb 7600P raid 0(boot), 6.4tb samsung PMPM1725 for games and general storage, Lian Li V3000 plus (not super duper happy with this in all honesty), main monitor is a 27" koorui 1440p 240hz thing, and then 3 secondary 1920x1200 60hz panels one left one right and one above

ASRock Extreme 4. This mobo is way better. Much more stable.

Ooooooooooo ASRock engineers also made modded BIOSes for all ASRock boards AFAIK, enabling PCIe slot bifurcation if you wanna run a 2 or 4x M.2 card (I have one but can only use one slot due to lack of the bifurcation option).

The 1080 Ti is a great GPU. I've actually upgraded from my 4K Monitor to a 21" Sony CRT (1920x1440 or 1600x1200) so I don't even need all this power anymore.

Indeed. I had a Gaming X 1080 Ti, quite regret getting rid of it. My RVII is more fun to push and has more OC headroom, true, but only on one (1) driver version (last set of Adrenaline 2019 WQHL drivers available for download), and when not on those it's basically a headache everywhere else. Whereas I've never had issues with my Nvidia cards, other than some slight funkiness with my GTX 780s in SLI, but that seems to have fixed itself (and may have been the CPU/mobo combo I was running with them).

How's the CRT treating you? I've never really used one, heard a lot good about them though.

I realize this isn't the exact topic, but there is no x79 thread afaik. How would quad channel ddr3 stack up against dual ddr3? (1600 and 3000 respectively)

I would opt for higher bandwidth over speed most days.

I'm only running DDR4-2400 in my X99 system, but I'd choose quad channel 2400Mhz on X99 over dual channel 3000Mhz on Ryzen for example.

quad ddr = 2 * dual ddr

so 2133 quad ddr4 = 4267 dual ddr4

5960x/1660 v3 OC'd are faster than a Ryzen 7 2700X OC'd. Peole said the IPC of Haswell was higher than Ryzen 1st gen and closer to Ryzen 2nd gen. I'd be interested in seeing OC'd 5960x vs OC'd Ryzen 7 3700X benchmarks. and vs Ryzen 5 3600 because they're the same price now.

I think certain Giga boards have a hard time seeing Xeon hex cores. I did have a UD7 once with a 970. I cant remember if I had my Xeon back then or not. I do know of someone who had issues on their UD3. No problems on my Asus, other than some memory compatibility issues, could be because mine is an engineering sample.

AMD R9 5900X | Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 EVO, T30,TL-C12 Pro
Asus Crosshair VIII Dark Hero | 4x8GB G.Skill Trident Z @ 3733C14 1.5v
Zotac 4070 Ti Trinity OC @ 3045/1496 | WD SN850, SN850X, SN770
Seasonic Vertex GX-1000 | Fractal Torrent Compact RGB, Many CFM's

There are reports of the xeons working fine on this board, with this said the best for gaming would really depend how good your board clocks, but given how cheap they are now I'd say grab an X5670 or an X5675 if you can, I've yet to get an X5670 that can't do 4.5GHz at 1.4v, as for your question about ECC, it's a kinda yes and no, you can use standard ECC (so anything ending with E, 14900E for example) but you cannot use registered ECC and this is a chipset limit so that can't be bypassed, standard ECC usually works fine on consumer cpus and motherboards though since the vast majority of boards just run in non-ECC mode, for example I'm running 32GB of 14900E on my i7 4930K

current rig: Xeon W-3175X at 4.7GHz all core 1.25v and 3200MHz cache, EVGA SR3 Dark, 48gb of tridentZ 4133 Cl19 (A0 PCB) running 4000MHz 16 16 16 34 1T, 6900XT aorus master with an EK waterblock, 1440mm custom loop, corsair HX1500i, 2x256gb 7600P raid 0(boot), 6.4tb samsung PMPM1725 for games and general storage, Lian Li V3000 plus (not super duper happy with this in all honesty), main monitor is a 27" koorui 1440p 240hz thing, and then 3 secondary 1920x1200 60hz panels one left one right and one above

My final ram kit arrived today so I have 24GB of Mushkin Blackline DDR3-2400. Is it worth spending $140 on high end ram for a dead platform? Absolutely not. Is it gonna be fun to be able to push my system as far as it can go? Yes, yes it will. :3

I know my system is a touch dusty. I need to get some canned air to get at the dust filter at the front then wipe down the inside with microfiber cloths.

Well, extenuating circumstances have brought me to a situation where I may just be strapping a pair of R9 290X's to the rig but I have to verify I can get OpenCL working on Linux from the Terminal. If I can I may try to push the envelope while I'm at it.

A fury X, yes. I've been running it for about a year and a half now. I had a pair of GTX 780 3GBs in SLI before but one of them died and the other one is on the way out. I've been using it for 2k gaming and it does it like a champ. I'm 100% sure that it'd be much happier at 1080p but my Pixio PX276 doesn't look as good at 1080p. Besides, 90+ frames on most games at high is pretty solid for a alnost 5 year old card with 4GB of vram.

780 is still a beast at 1080p, mine matched a 1060 3GB with a decent overclock.

I'm aware of its potential. I had reference models but even those could take a pretty solid oc. My best one could take 200mhz on the core and 450mhz on the memory. In SLI, I could do 180mhz on the core and 400mhz on the memory because the second card wasn't as good of a bin. Honestly, I don't mind the blower cooler either because two of them in a system together looked so baller. The reference cooler looked so nice and that vapor chamber heatsink wasn't a slouch either!

Replaced my 770 for a 980 for 1080p gaming. A vast improvement on triple A titles though..... 50% better performance actually.

A 770 would be caparable to a 1050/1050 Ti. Especially if you had the 4gb varient.
