Switch or Xbox One X?

VictorVitao666

So, I've been looking into console gaming again for a long time now and want you guys's opinion on my two choices. I've been a PC exclusive gamer for a long time now and miss the feeling of sitting on a couch and just playing a dumb game and not worrying about anything. That said i can't stand console level performance so the PS4 and Xbox One are out of the question, but when i saw the Xbox One X performance i was hopeful that i could console game again. Mainly i want to play games that are not on PC like Madden and Red Dead. But the Switch is the more fun console and definitely the exclusive king and very much cheaper and actually available right now. So what do you think?

Build a living room PC, so you have full multi-media and higher end gaming capacity :3

the Xbox is just a crippled PC, if you MUST get a console go for a PlayStation or Switch for the exclusives

You can have that with PC too.

If that is the only thing you want, just get the XBox One Wireless thing. And many games you can play that way.

WRONG!
Just WRONG.

You don't buy a console for THAT.

You buy a console because it has games you want to play. THAT'S the ONLY REASON to buy a console.

Just looking at the hardware and buying the most powerful console is plain stupid.

You have to look at the GAMES you want to play!

And buy the console that has the most games you want to play.

And has the worst hardware of all modern consoles...

Excluding the PS4 because of performance but including the Switch is just hypocritical...

Anyway, just get the console that has the most games you want to play!

As a PC gamer, there is less overlap in software going with a Switch over Xbox One X and probably PS4 Pro. You probably love Nintendo games since you're considering Switch, it sounds like that's the way to go. If you happen to like a lot of non-Nintendo Japanese games (particularly in the RPG genre or the more niche anime stuff), then the PS4 perhaps would be more compelling. It's interesting you're thinking of the Xbox One X since I figured a PC gamer wouldn't care for it since the overlap is huge. You must really, really like Madden and Red Dead to sacrifice all other console exclusives to play those on the best hardware.

I personally, as a console gamer, was considering an Xbox One X until the price was revealed. I then spent that amount of money to get a GTX 1080 for I probably better results. Plus I'm not at the mercy of devs to patch it higher resolution options. I do have an Xbox One S and yeah, at this point, it is just a UHD BD player for the most part.

If you have a decent PC....

Get a PS4 for the exclusives

Get a Switch for the exclusives and the fact that it's portable

Don't get a XBOne unless you really want a UHD BluRay player

Don't get a 3DS because despite being fairly cheap now it's on the way out

Don't get a Wii U because even if it was still supported it doesn't offer much that the Switch doesn't do better

Don't get a Vita because its main selling point was that it's a portable indie machine and the Switch does that better

Wow, people are really but hurt lmao. I personally have both. the pc is great, more powerful, but console is simpler to boot into, one platform to buy games, all your friends on one service apposed to using this voice chat or that one. If you want ease of use and pick up and go, consoles not that bad. If I come home after a long day, I'd rather grab a controller, hold a button for two seconds, and instantly be online with friends.

I wouldn't touch XBone with a PC as powerful as yours. It would have to be between Switch and PS4 IMO. XBox One X and PS4 Pro are still both 30 fps consoles like PS4 and XBox One are. I'd just hook the gaming PC up to the TV and build a cheap Coffee Lake Pentium or i3 desktop for LTT and pornhub, and then buy a PS4 or Switch for the exclusives you can't get on PC. 2017 has been a monster year for PS4 exclusives and should be for Switch too once Super Mario Odyssey comes out (that game looks like it's going to be unbelieveable).

Not sure about the 3DS, as the Switch isn't a direct replacement due to size, power consumption and expense. Tbh, I would like Nintendo to put out another 3ds iteration with more GPU power (probably just x2 or x4 the already existing GPU), higher res display (games can be compatible with both older models, or run higher res on the new one), and achieve 10+hr battery life while gaming.

For the most part, the only thing really hurting visuals on the 3DS is the potato resolution. Fix that, and give it monstrous battery life (mildly upscaled/higher clocked GPU on newer process should yield this) and I'd think it would still have a couple years left in it. The primitive shader effects don't detract nearly as much from the games as seeing pixels.

@Zodiark1593

To be fair the XL SKUs have always been significantly more popular and the tablet market in general is pretty strong. I don't think size as much of an issue for the Switch as some people make it out to be. In terms of power consumption the rated battery life is actually fairly similar to the 3DS and quite a bit longer if you're playing a simpler game. I don't think that's a factor either. With the cost? Sure, it's about $250AU more than a 2DSXL is right now. But it's only $50AU more than the 3DS launch price adjusted for inflation. It's a factor but the same is true for every new console.

I honestly don't think the 3DS is going to keep going forever. They did just release a lower cost SKU to keep it going for a bit longer but I think that's probably the end of it. I'd expect Nintendo to do a price cut and a revision on the Switch that caters to that audience well before I'd expect to see a higher spec 3DS. It just makes so much more business sense for Nintendo if they're not splitting their resources across two platforms.
