How to install a game of steam that i already downloaded?

khazad

I've built a new pc and i've downloaded a few games on my old pc to move them to my external HDD so i can move them on my new pc when i wanted them to play.

So i start downloading a game on steam, i go to the downloading folder and paste there the game that's in the external hdd then do the verify the files? or i simply put it on the common folder and then verify the files?

Last time I moved games across drives, I went to the steam client to verify new location and went to "download" those games again. Steam found existing files and all was good.

so you already have the game files on your HDD ? In that case , go tosettings>downloads>steam library folder , and just select your drive / folder which contains them.

You can either create a new install directory, pointing to where your games are currently located, or you can move the install files to your common library directory (steam/steamapps/common) and relaunch Steam. If they don't detect as installed after the relaunch, then simply double clicking on the game in the library menu should make Steam detect and launch said game.
