Is an SSD worth it?

DeadZed

Besides faster boot times, what else does it bring to the table?

anything on the SSD is much more responsive.

it doesn't rattle like HDDs do.

1) Yes.

2) Everything an HDD can do is a lot faster. It is also more reliable, more rugged and has better software :)

If you have money to spare, don't waste your time not having an SSD or you'll lose time remaining SSD-less.

if you run multiple Virtual Machines on one drive, SSD is a must.

I can't stand using anything with just a HDD anymore. Using my parents laptops are extremely slow compared to an SSD. It's worth it

SSDs are simply faster, quieter, smaller, more energy efficiant, more reliable, less fragile compared to a standard hard drive.

Yes it offers faster boot times and loading speeds of applications. Windows 8 is pretty fast with boot times on an HDD so its your choice if you want to spend money on an SSD or better parts.

Yes. Loading times basically turn from 20-30 seconds to 1-5 seconds. It's more reliable and makes no noise, unlike a HDD

Don't forget SSD's don't get toasty like mechanical drives so it should decrease the ambient temperature of your case

I held off on getting an SSD for quite a while, I thought hey I have an HDD or three that work they load things and yeah they are not that fast but they haven't let me down, I don't need one. Then I got one and woah what a difference, now you may think I went and got a top of the line fancy new block of awesome but no I got a kingston whatevermabob on special and it is now my favorite piece of kit. Even if you are not a gamer an ssd makes a huge difference.

So in short Yes! 5 stars would recommend again. An ssd as others have said are also very sturdy they don't take percussive damage so in laptops they are great, ever dropped one of those and then heard a lovely grinding noise after?
