looking to build a new gaming pc. have always used AMD wanting to go to INTEL. any ideas or thoughts would be helpful

 

current specs.  AMD FX 8350, MSI R9 390 8G GAMING CARD, FATALITY 990FX KILLER BOARD, SAMSUNG SSD EVO 512 GIG

Wait for the 8600(k) coming out soon, it'll be much better than the current i5s

Having issues with a Corsair AIO? Possible fix here:

Are you getting weird fan behavior, speed fluctuations, and/or other issues with Link?

Are you running AIDA64, HWinfo, CAM, or HWmonitor? (ASUS suite & other monitoring software often have the same issue.)

Corsair Link has problems with some monitoring software so you may have to change some settings to get them to work smoothly.

-For AIDA64: First make sure you have the newest update installed, then, go to Preferences>Stability and make sure the "Corsair Link sensor support" box is checked and make sure the "Asetek LC sensor support" box is UNchecked.

-For HWinfo: manually disable all monitoring of the AIO sensors/components.

-For others: Disable any monitoring of Corsair AIO sensors.

That should fix the fan issue for some Corsair AIOs (H80i GT/v2, H110i GTX/H115i, H100i GTX and others made by Asetek). The problem is bad coding in Link that fights for AIO control with other programs. You can test if this worked by setting the fan speed in Link to 100%, if it doesn't fluctuate you are set and can change the curve to whatever. If that doesn't work or you're still having other issues then you probably still have a monitoring software interfering with the AIO/Link communications, find what it is and disable it.

Don't buy based on brand. If you want to go Intel, get an i7, i5s aren't worth it. If you can't spend more than $250, get a Ryzen 5 1600. It's much better than i5s.

AMD now is really good, but if you really want to go intel (you shouldn't shop by company BTW), then the upcoming 8600K will be best.

if you want AMD, the 1600 would be my recommendation.

it's a pretty crappy time to switch to intel...AMD has the upper hand in terms of performance and price right now...get a ryzen R5 1600...don't get an i5...it's no longer enough for gaming.

Core i5s are pretty much always better value for money than i7s.

Sure, I was just saying Core i7s are not better value than i5s. A 7700K costs 45% more than a 7600K, but it doesn't perform 45% better.

Depends on the i5 and the Core i7. An i5 7600K with a Z270 board and a cooler costs as much as an i7 7700 with a B250 board and the i7 performs better ;)

I don't know. I'd take an overclocked i5 paired with overclocked ram over a stock clocked i7 with JEDEC ram. HT isn't magic.

4 threads is no longer enough for serious gaming regardless of maker. 4c/8t should be minimum for anyone building a PC from here on out.
