That's a hard question.

For animation, you really need a good CPU and GPU.

From my knowledge though you probably need a better CPU, but don't quite me on that.

at that point i would be getting dual cpu rig with multiple high end workstation cards

For 3D rendering, you would be better spending the bulk of your money on graphics cards.

A couple of zeon's and a workstation card will do you well.
