The best option is a UPS, the minimum option is a surge protector. You also better make sure your building's power is on a circuit breaker.

if this is the question, then yes, but it probably won't stay on long unless you ball out on the UPS.

Buy a good POWER BAR. If there is an electricity outtage, your computer will be protected by the power bar.

If you already use a UPS, not sure what is the question then ? If there is an electricity outtage, UPS will keep the power on for a little while.

Not just any power bar, one with a surge protector built in. Get one of those and plug the UPS into it, and you should be fine.

Your only option would be to unplug the system or to get a lightning suppressor. Due to the high voltage it's unpredictable and can still kill components or the system if it's plugged in to a UPS or good quality surge protector. A lightning suppressor is designed to sacrifice itself if things gets hit and usually is your best chance at protecting things down the line.

If you have a PC connected to the battery ports of the UPS and the UPS has full battery life then you can easily unplug the UPS carefully place the PC and the UPS on a chair with wheels or something like that and just roll it to where ever you want but make sure not to unplug the PC or hit the off button on the UPS.

 

Note that depending o the battery life you will have like minutes to probably an hour to move the PC to somewhere else.

Thats what I meant by "good" powerbar loll they almost all have it unless you buy a cheap 2$ powerbar...

Thats like the best of course but just a powerbar should be enough isnt it ?

Not a power bar but a surge protector is the absolute minimum that should be on any valuable electronic to protect it from a power surge. Good quality surge protectors brands are units from such as APC, Tripplite, Eaton, GE, Belkin, Phliphs to name a few.

Yeah we call that power bar here in Canada loll. They all have surge protector unless you buy a cheap 2$ one.

Any 15$ powerbar do the job.

Great point that's easy to overlook. I spent $220 on a 1500VA, 900W UPS but if the power goes out it still will only give me about 20min of power (PC+ 1 monitor) before it runs out. Unless you're spending crazy money on a UPS plus a backup generator that automatically kicks in when the power fails, the UPS is only there to give you enough time to save everything and shut down. They're not going to let you continue using during a blackout unless you have a very low power system or laptop. I also got a small $40 350VA one for just my modem & router to keep the internet going just long enough for a cloud save or to finish a NAS request.

Depends entirely on where the lightning strikes.

scenario 1: lightning strikes a power line or a transformer station away from the house. 

 

The surge can travel through power lines and destroy stuff. Yes. Surge protector power cords will most likely (no gurantee) do the job and your fine. Most proper UPS system will provide such a surge protection as well.

 

scenario 2: lightning strikes directly into your house.

 

There's basically nothing you can do without physically disconnecting everything from the grid. Lightnings cross over distances of several kilometers, a few milimetres or centimetres won't protect you and that's basically the distance you get in a surge protector or a UPS. It's even possible that lightning will cross the gap between your wall socket and an unplugged power cord next to it. A lightning rod on the roof of your house does provide some protection but it is an urban myth that lightnings would only hit the highest available point. Most often the case but not always. If your house is struck by a lightning and it went into your electrical lines … call your insurance because you need some professionals and possibly the fire brigade
