What is this and what do I do with it?

This thing on the left goes on top of the CPU backplate. I’m using an AMD FX 8350 and Akasa Venom Voodoo as my cooler. What do I do with it? Do I take it off or leave it on? And what is it called? Thanks in advance people.

looks like some kind of insulation to prevent the metal backplate shorting out the mainboard.

sandwich it between the backplate and the mainboard

That black thingy is to prevent that backplate from shorting or frying your board. I'm sure the engineers knows what they are doing and have place that there for a reason. Why do you have itchy fingers and pry that thing off?

i'd call it a CPU backplate isolation sheet - totally making that up but i have seen similar things used in various electrical devices and most of the time the service manual labels it "isolation sheet"

I didnt pry it off I was just cleaning my PC and it comes off the second you take out the backplate

It's a insulator to prevent your board from shorting with the metal backplate. Not all of them are like that. Some are just clear hard plastic with double sided tape.
