Is now a good time to build a PC?

Hey guys, I've been busy with school and life so I haven't really been paying any attention at all as far as the whole tech industry is concerned. I'm going to be building a new PC shortly and I was just wondering if you guys think now is a good time to build a PC, and if not when you think a good time to build would be? Last time I paid any attention to tech in general was when Z77 was fresh and Ivy-Bridge was all the rage & the GTX 600 series was on it's way out the door. I'm going to go balls to the wall with this next system, with an i7-7700k & GTX 1080 but if a new generation of chips worth waiting for are on the horizon then I might hold off. What are your guys opinions? Thanks

Coffee lake is just on the horizon and RAM prices are weird right now along with mid-range GPUs, but the 1080 is pretty stable :)

Right now is a really good time. AMD has gotten back on it's feet, prices are falling (after the great GPU shortage of 2017) and things are good :)

RX 580 prices are normal but RAM prices are still weird.

Ah, haven't checked on the AMD stuff lately, good to know they are back down to around normal now :)

Wait a few months. Intel should be releasing six core i7-87xx cpu soon.

 

AMD has just released Ryzen R7 which is competitive with the current generation of Intel cpu. 

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Are ram prices expected to drop anytime soon?

Main reason I haven't upgraded yet is the DDR4 pricing right now. Have just acceptable performance form cpu/mobo for my needs right now, but the RAM prices for newer gen...

Everything from the the big tech tubers, say that prices are likely to go up before they go back down. Who knows though, it's all speculation till it happens.

Now is a pretty bad time. GPU prices are definitely still iffy. RAM pricing is super awful. SSD pricing is actually not horrific rn, but it's not as good as it could be. Coffee Lake is Intel finally bringing 6 cores to their mainstream platform so LGA1151 and 2066 are not worth investing in right now.

 

If you have to build now, go for it. If you can wait, do it.
