Looking for a gaming laptop for ~$900

I was looking at the dell inspiron 15 7567 (http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/cty/pdp/spd/inspiron-15-7567-laptop) The $900 config with the SSD and the 1050ti, but i'm extremely open to suggestions, The boot SSD is a priority for me, as well as the strong battery life. Thanks in advance!

Yeah & I found a brand new version too for around the $900 budget. I'd stay away from dell though, however have heard some bad things about Lenovo customer support too.

The one I linked has a 1050Ti option avaliable for $899, and the one you linked comes with a 1050 4GB for $949.  Sure, the $949 one comes with an i7 and a small SSD, the one I linked will perform better in games for the price.

With no warranty, and if anything happens to the machine or something fails after 14 days, you're completely and entirely screwed. It's too much of a gamble if you're paying that much for effectively a NEW laptop with no warranty.

Dude..they both come with one year of mail in service.  The one you linked has the same exact BASE warranty as mine.

My argument still stands. With the one I linked, you get better performance for the price.

I fully echo this sentiment - 2 of my friends own the Inspiron 7000 from Dell. One bought theirs last year, so it's got a 6th Gen CPU and the non-IPS display, and the other friend bought theirs this year with a newer 7th Gen CPU. Hands down these are the best all round multimedia / gaming laptops on the market for your money from a reputable manufacturer offering great warranty service in a 15" chassis that doesn't make me throw up in disgust. Nothing against Clevo / MSI / Gigabyte's offerings from a hardware standpoint - their chassis just haven't impressed me much. Like that guy in that old Shania Twain song.

XPS 15 9560 is also a great alternative. It's actually got very similar innards to the Inspiron 7000 series, but in a smaller and lighter package, which is exactly why I went with one over the 7000 series. Love the 10+ hour battery during day-to-day web browsing and gaming capabilities when I need them.

Can't disagree with you on the webcam - it's a trade off for having such narrow screen bezels. No subwoofer is no problem, since objectively laptops don't provide enough space for decent speaker drivers anyway, so audio quality shouldn't be expected to be decent from any laptop on the market. That being said, audio is also subjective, so if you'd prefer a "subwoofer" (aka a slightly larger drivers that is still incapable of producing quality audio) then so be it. Find a 17" laptop that has "better" audio, such as HP's Envy lineup or some of MSI's machines, and enjoy the "subwoofer".

What will a 17" do than a smaller laptop can't. They're all the same thickness isn't it? I would to have a subwoofer, for a better sound experience, but if one does not have it, then so be it. MSI have it in their P-series, but their overall design and quality feels tacky and cheap. Dell has it too, in their Inspiron 15 7000 series. Too bad this model lacks modern ports or any way of future proofing.

I would like to have a laptop that's small as possible and light weight. A 12 or 13 inch would be nice, but 99% of these on the budget side aka netbooks are junk. So it look like I have no option but to look for a 15". I have found 2 of them that I'm looking for, just need to do some coin flipping before I decided on which one to get. :D

I would like them CoffeeLake, but that's too far away. I need a laptop asap.

While they can certainly be the same thickness, there is more surface area for a shallow mount "subwoofer" that's around 1-1.5 inches in diameter. A 15.6 inch or smaller laptop may not have this space inside due to battery or motherboard placement, so I don't often see "subwoofers" in them. But as you've noted, there are some laptops that do indeed manage to squeeze a "subwoofer" into a smaller chassis, albeit sometimes at the expense of a much-needed secondary cooling fan. (Looking at you, HP Pavilion DV6 and DV7 laptops from 2008-2011 ish.)

Lenovo makes a couple of thin and light notebooks between 13 and 15 inches, but again, they're not cheap unless you catch them on sale as Lenovo's mid and high end products are built really well because they cater to business customers a lot. This is great for the consumer in the long run too, since it means you get a rock solid machine that you can rely on. But again, "subwoofers" just aren't going to fit into these machines without compromising on other more important hardware.

I know - as I said above, 2 friends own Inspiron 7000 laptops and they love them. And yes, it's great that they managed to include a tiny "subwoofer" despite it's comical size. What I was getting at is that laptop audio has been over-marketed to more important than size limitations will allow in such a confined space. To properly push out lows, you have to move a lot more air than a tiny 1.5 inch "subwoofer" is capable of, despite manufacturers really pushing them as selling features. But again, if it's something that you personally want in a laptop, and you enjoy whatever quality of sound it provides, then that's all that matters. :)
