What M.2 is best for this board?

hello, i'm new to the pc building thing and have MSI B350 GAMING PLUS mobo that i'm looking to get an m.2 for, only one problem, don't know what one to get.  I know there are different m.2 solid states, speed and compatibility wise but don't know what i am looking for, Thanks

I think by now all boards should support NVMe which is the best "type" of m.2 SSD out there.  Now you are left with capacity and the brand.  Just get like a samsung 960 evo.

Not necessarily. NVMe is the king of read-write speeds but when it comes to boot times and game load times, they're practically identical. Just depends what OP wants it for. If he moves large files, NVMe is for him. If he's a gamer, a sata SSD offers practically the same performance for a much lower price.

My point was that nvme is the standard for pcie ssds (including m.2) so there shouldnt be any compatibility issues.

 

Back before the NVMe was widespread, pcie ssds mostly ran on proprietary or nonstandard drivers which wasn't without compatibility complications.

For NVMe drives:

 - 850 evo 250gb m.2 or;

 - 960 evo 250gb m.2

 

For 2.5" Sata:

 - 850 evo 250gb 2.5"

 - MX300 250gb 2.5"
