i5 or i7

I'm building a new rig and have most of the parts already like the mobo, cooling and ram. I have 2 options to finish it off, should i go for an i5 7600k with a GTX 1080 or an i7 7700k and a GTX 1070, as there is only about £20 difference for these combos i can afford that but not the i7 and 1080.

The i5 is a bad choice, the Ryzen 5 1600 is much better and costs less or if the OP wants to get an Intel CPU, he should get an i7 7700 non K with a B250 board (instead of a 7600K with a Z270 board)

He already has the mobo and other components or the ryzen is better

Locked i7 7700 on the cheapest board you can find and the GTX 1080 - by far the best price-to-performance on Kaby Lake.

i cant return the mortherboard, besides i want to OC the CPU hence the unlocked,

any i5 is a terrible, terrible choice.  Depending on resolution and game you may even get better fps on the 1070 due to how garbo 4 threads is.  You will almost certainly have far worse minimums on the i5 and a tonne of new and upcoming games can use 6+ threads.

Then sell it, all ryzen chips can OC.

You don't have to OC, just get an i7 7700 with a B250 board or a Ryzen 5 1600 with a B350 board (you can overclock the Ryzen). The 7600K is just not worth it for gaming (and in general)

The issue here as stated is that you can overclock the i5 7600k all you want, it will still be outperformed with ease by the locked i7 7700, and probably still bottleneck the GTX 1070 on very CPU demanding games such as AC Unity.

 

You should save longer to get the i7 7700k + GTX 1080 combo which is very worth the money, otherwise you'll overpay for a crappy experience either ways.

problem is the the 7700k + 1080 is its and extra £200 on top of the other combos. 

 

i think i might go for the 7700k and the 1070.
