You shouldn't get an i5 when the R5 processors exist.

I was considering jumping to DDR4-2666 but wasn't sure how else to keep the price under $700.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind for future part lists.

I kinda just threw that case in as a placeholder. I wasn't entirely sure what case to go with for such a tight budget.

Even if you get a r3 1200 instead, you'll still be over budget by around $30. Unless you'd rather get a 1050ti.

It's $3.72 over budget, you can recover that by going with slower RAM or cheaper PSU but I'd suggest just skip eating out for a week and get this instead.

lol, no. Intel made coffee lake require a 300-series chipset motherboard to work, older 100/200 series chipset motherboards will not work with coffee lake.

  1. 8th gen CPUs aren't compatible with Z170/Z270 because Intel had do rearrange the pins to support the additional cores and DDR4 2666
  2. The i5 is not faster than the Ryzen 5 1600, which is the CPU that it it competing with: http://www.gamersnexus.net/hwreviews/2875-amd-r5-1600x-1500x-review-fading-i5-argument/page-4

OP, you're whole point regarding Ryzen is invalid. I personally have an Intel processor, yes. I built my system months before Ryzen came out. Ryzen is on par with Intel at lower prices, and better at same price. Coffee Lake will NOT be compatible with Sky or Kaby Lake, so you will be stuck with that selection. Finally, Userbenchmark, and most other online auto benchmarking sites, are complete trash, compared to real, video reviews with good reviewers and accurate methods.

i5 6600k and GTX 1070 but I play 1600-900. 1440p BABY!

Still, don't put too much faith in my buying decisions. xD

In averages, very slightly, but the 1% and 0.1% lows, which are just as important were much higher on the 1600. If you don't want to get an AMD CPU, just get an i7 7700 with a B250 board (performance is the same as the 6700K), just don't get a 7600K :/
