I thought they were finally putting an end to it with the Definitive Edition remake of AoE1, but this is pretty exiting news!

AoE1/2 were a couple of my favorite games growing up. I don't really like that the trailer shows it spanning many ages. The idea of Age of Empires is that you advanced through one specific age, such as the medieval period or Roman Period of history. If I wanted a game to take me through the ages I would play Empire Earth

I'm a bit torn. I want to see some new mechanics but still want it to feel like the familiar AoE game play

I'm looking forward to it, but I'm also concerned about it being developed by Relic. Despite making many RTSs, Relic has never made an AoE style game. Previous Relic RTSs have little to no base building, and have their gameplay based around the capture and control of nodes. The maps for Relic RTSs are typically very symmetrical, and not natural and largely open, like in AoE games.

 

I hope that Relic is going to make AoE4 an AoE game, and not a CoH or DoW game.
