If you want to get out of console gaming, the last thing I would do is buy another console.

That said, I wouldn't get a PC right now either.  SSDs, RAM, and GPUs are all overpriced and might not return to normal for at least another year or more.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

oh, Canada eh?  rip, then throw a 25 - 30% "tax" on top of the problems I already mentioned because of the currency.  I would avoid making large purchases if possible, or you're basically just flushing that difference down the toilet.  It should return to parity or close enough eventually...

Have you tried listing the other advantages, or lowering the price of your computer? $2.5k is pretty top tier you can easily get a capable gaming PC for half that.

  • A PC can be used for school work; writing and researching papers, etc
  • A PC is upgradable, and will last longer in the long run.
  • Games are cheaper (if you wait a bit, eh, it's a stretch but you never know) on a PC.
  • It's a hobby. Hobbies are good.

Buy stuff from America, send it to an address in America, then take a drive across the border. It'll be cheaper.

You could buy my entire PC probably twice with 2250CAD ($1700USD). I can play Fallout 4 on Ultra.

As for color schemes, what are your two favorite colors? Mine are red and blue, so that's what I made my PC.

I'm not so sure it would be.  Despite how much I complain about the prices here, one thing we don't generally have to deal with is bullshit import fees - if you compare the price there to the price here, it's usually the "same", just accounting for currency conversion.  Places like the UK aren't so lucky...

And that's not even counting the fact you'd have to drive all that way, etc.  Not worth it imo.

The 1060 would probably be good for 2, maybe 3 years, at which time you could upgrade it for another $200 - $300, and get probably another 3 years out of the PC for sure.

Well if i could id like to get my dad a workstation rig/family gaming. In 2-3 years so maybe get a 1060. Then in 2 years get a new build? If i could find a damn 1440p monitor with atleast 100hz with gsync for less than 580$ that would be a gamechanger

Honestly you don't need anything like the 7700K, those are stupidly enthusiast-grade parts.

An i5 6600 and a 1060 6G with 12GB RAM would work just fine.

Aye, but over the last 27 years it's been low more often than high...it's basically returned to "normal".

I made a fair bit of money when it was at parity, but damn I wish I'd invested in USD.

Import tax on everything; I once had to pay the tax on a cable.....apparently that counts as an electronic device.....annoying when the seller told me it was coming from inside the UK.....

I have a mate in the same boat right now, and to be honest its really not a good time to be buying any computers, second hand its not too bad but still not great, I would hold out as long as possible, but I can't fine the PC part picker list now lol, Ryzen will probably be your best bet.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?
