Asus GTX 1060 Strix won’t fit into PCI-E slot

zen1x

I’m doing my first PC build and this is the last part. I’m trying to plug my GPU into PCI-E but it won’t go in! My motherboard is MSI B350 Tomahawk. I think that those caps (?) are in the way. Is there anything I can do?

Well if you're sure the caps are blocking your GPU from fitting, you'll have to use on of the other PCI-E slots on your motherboard. Or.... you can try modding the card to make it fit, however that would most definitely void the warranty.

Also, Idk about the B350, but is it possible to remove those caps?

They shouldn't hit, the capacitors should be lower than the height of the pcie slot, and I'm pretty sure the ATX standards have non-interference areas to avoid things like that happening.

Most likely you aren't getting the tabs on the card into their slots on the rear panel.  Check to see if one of them is bent at all.

If nothing is bent and you're pretty sure you're hitting those caps, you can confirm this by putting a drop of whiteout on the top of the caps, then attempting to install the card.  If you get whiteout on the card, it is in fact hitting.

SFF-ish:  Ryzen 5 1600X, Asrock AB350M Pro4, 16GB Corsair LPX 3200, Sapphire R9 Fury Nitro -75mV, 512gb Plextor Nvme m.2, 512gb Sandisk SATA m.2, Cryorig H7, stuffed into an Inwin 301 with rgb front panel mod.  LG27UD58.

Aging Workhorse:  Phenom II X6 1090T Black (4GHz #Yolo), 16GB Corsair XMS 1333, RX 470 Red Devil 4gb (Sold for $330 to Cryptominers), HD6850 1gb, Hilariously overkill Asus Crosshair V, 240gb Sandisk SSD Plus, 4TB's worth of mechanical drives, and a bunch of water/glycol.  Coming soon:  Bykski CPU block, whatever cheap Polaris 10 GPU I can get once miners start unloading them.

MintyFreshMedia:  Thinkserver TS130 with i3-3220, 4gb ecc ram, 120GB Toshiba/OCZ SSD booting Linux Mint XFCE, 2TB Hitachi Ultrastar.  In Progress:  3D printed drive mounts, 4 2TB ultrastars in RAID 5.

@GDRRiley Yea lol. I pulled it back.

@Phate.exe Nothing is bent. GPU’s PCI-E thingies aren’t bent and the tabs are pulled out and they surely aren’t bent.

@shiggy Everything is in place there.

It'll fit just be gentle, the board layout and pci-e car are built to iso standards, because they have to fit and work together.

if its a cheap case a little wiggling might be needed to get everything in line

@it_dont_work It’s NZXT S340 Elite. Well... Can someone give me a video how to properly insert a graphics card? Maybe I’m just tired (5:55 AM in Poland) and I’m doing something wrong.

Align the tabs on the cards io with the slots in the case and then align the pci-e with the mobo, it'll need a little force (emphasis on a little) to put it in. it's not a easy slide in fit, just dont force it like your giving a hobo a handy for drug money.

@it_dont_work Dude! I made it. I’m so dumb that I didn’t get the hard plastic cover off the PCI-E on GPU. Btw I want to add a WLAN card but it has a radiator. If I plug it on back of the card it will be nearly touching the backplate (is it ok or do I need to put something [i don’t have any ideas what] in between). Or I can plug it in front of the GPU, but won’t that raise the temps?

Just put the wifi card in the lowest pci slot it'll fit in, doesn't matter if its longer than the card. I've a 3.1card ontop of my fury, and the backplate only just misses the card, otherwise i would of put it in the bottom slot of my mobo.

as long as it isn;t directly like mm's away from the fan it'll be fine, I assume you have an intake fan on your case.

Is it okay or I should put something in between. I’m afraid of it shorting something and frying the GPU.

Ok last thing. I have to screw in the 3 antennas. But TP-Link also gave me something like this. What is it?

I don't really know what that plate thing is for but i think its some kind of different cover for other cases to swap out the one you have in there already.

The small bracket is for use with a small form factor case. You would replace the large bracket with the small one because the case is narrower.
