I haven't been able to get excited about building a PC for a while now, and it's causing me a great deal of mental fuckery. I have nothing to play WoW with though, and kinda feel like trying to get back into it for a while.

Before I could just know exactly what I wanted, without caring how much it cost. Now I have no idea, and I can't imagine even wanting to pay some of the premium prices I'd have paid a couple of years ago. Can't have subpar aesthetics though...

Hell I barely ever even come to this forum now, and I used to live here 24/7. This blows cockles.

Oh and look at how sexy my WoW toons are!

Sounds like you've lost the spark/interest and I know that sucks hard.

Maybe try poking around with some stuff that you used to like, bring back the old memories and see if that helps :)

Honestly... if you lost interest you just lost interest. I'm not sure if there's much you can do about it. Maybe watch some videos or something, see if it sparks something?

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

Do this:

And make sure you do it by hitting the quote button at the bottom left of my post, and not the one inside the editor!

Or this:

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Haha yeah it's weird. I know I would enjoy having a high end PC again...or multiple.

Even something as simple as picking a case just seems impossible to me now. Part of me wants to get an outdated HAF-X or 780T again, and part of me wants something new and ITX like the BitFenix Portal.

Then there are all these tempered glass/aluminum/RGB cases...and I usually just get bored and close out Newegg cause I can't even bother to make up my mind. I just lack passion now.

Yah, I'm having trouble finding a gaming spark myself.

For the past year I was waiting to build my rig in a new case for temp reasons and then I built this sexy beast of a computer and kept telling myself I just needed a new loop for better temps and once I got it I would game again, but then like 3 months after I built it I still hadn't picked up anything. It wasn't until a couple weeks ago I sat down and said F*ck it and forced myself to pick up and old game and go with it. Still having trouble keeping the momentum going for a while but I'm getting there again :)

Firstly if you are in financial dires , nothing is interesting that costs money , nothing.

If you aren't , then I find what keeps me into a hobby is just doing what I know and finding people that enjoy that specific level of knowledge.

with computers , I STILL haven't bought a newer machine than socket 1366 and still haven't bothered with windows 8 or 10 and have no idea what uefi is or why its suppose to be better. But i have a TON of knowledge about old computer like 90's and 2000's machines and I find facebook groups and forums that are specifically into those era of machines. It's funner to have fun with what I know then bother looking at new crap I can't afford anyway.

Damn lol...glad I'm not the only one who goes through these issues. I just wish I could force myself to buy parts for the simple fact that I need a computer again. Once I start gathering a list, I second guess it. Maybe I should go AMD over Intel/Nvidia. I really want a Z170 Sabertooth S but it's way expensive for a complete one on eBay, and I can't justify the cost for the specs...but nothing else will do. Idk lol. I should just be like you and build whatever I need instead of bitching over something so small.

Well money is an issue of course, but I can always just work more days once I decide what I want and have it complete within a month. I just lack the motivation. You got a good point though. I could just buy a Sega Saturn and play all the old fighting games I grew up on. That would likely excite me about gaming again.

I just recently bought a 3870 x2. Because when I was a kid I always wanted one. and built myself a windows xp era machine with and old q6600 and ddr2.

I honestly am kinda old school and still play my original xbox and n64 and like gaming on my old school pc's and it still just as fun to play them and even more fun finding out how to mod them and tweak them today. New stuff doesn't quite interest me as much as stuff I already know about.

Hmm well my lists would look something like...

Crosshair VI Hero

Ryzen 5 1600X

Vega

Ram, case, SSD's, cooler, and PSU that I can't decide on.

Or...

Used Z170 Sabertooth S

6700K or 7700K

GTX 1080

Ram, case, SSD's, cooler, and PSU that I can't decide on.

But then I'll want ITX last minute and fuck everything up lol.

Sounds more like you're just indecisive than anything. Or, perhaps you're just no longer into PC's. Tastes change. It happens.

Personally, I find building computers from Craigslist/eBay/Kijiji finds more exciting than anything else. Even though I could afford to buy new, I often do this just to see what kind of awesome deals I can get.

Wow I had no idea the made a glass Enthoo Luxe. That's one of the few cases I'm genuinely excited to see get the upgrade...as most I think look better with acrylic since it don't leave ugly screws sticking out the side.

That one has a cool mounting system though so I really like it. The rest of the builds are solid. Now I just just have to discipline myself to work 5 days a week instead of 3 for a bit. Honestly I could go ahead and order the case, mobo, cpu, and ram right now for either build...and get the gpu's later. I'd likely shell out $50 more for a used Sabertooth S though if I go Intel :P

Really appreciate the lists though. Love that case!

One small note about the Sabertooth S, since it's Z170 you'll need to make sure it's BIOS is up to date before dropping in a 7xxx series chip :)

The case is very sexy and I almost missed it too when putting the list together.

Haha yeah, I'd get one that's already upgraded or ask the seller if they could, since I've never had issues with that. I'd likely save a tiny bit and get a used 6700K anyways.

Maybe you should find something cool that requires better specs...like VR or making a polished video for the tube...maybe set a goal to run Witcher 3 smoothly in 4k...then you sorta force yourself to shop around for a specific PC that can meet it...idk..
