So I have been having a big internal struggle on my upcoming upgrades. Right now I have a I3-6100 on a Gigabyte GA-H110M-a Micro ATX Motherboard and I was planning on upgrading to a I5-7600 or I5-7600K. But in the past month or so, a huge internal debate has come up. Intel or Ryzen. Now most people will immediately jump to the conclusion of Ryzen, for the better Bang for the Buck Performance and better in the Ryzen 5 Line-up, the Ryzen 5 does a better over all job at Video Editing and Gaming, while the I5 isn't quite there on Editing. So I was debating whether to Continue with Team Blue, or make a Jump to Team Red. Like I just stated, the Ryzen does do better in the Video editing and work load section, which sounds tempting to me. But I already have my Intel LGA 1151 Socketed Board, so if I were to switch I would have to buy a New Board, New Processor and a New License of Windows. Which Will Cost me around 400 Dollars. Or I could pay around 240 Dollars for the I5-7600K, and leave it at that. But from what I have been hearing is that I should just switch to Ryzen because it is a better deal and it seems to be doing really well performance wise. But would it Really make sense in my case to buy the new Motherboard, CPU, and License of windows, or pay a little more or a little less for pretty much similar performance. If I had the budget to start from scratch I would probably go team Red on this one, but I feel like I am already into the Intel upgrade path and have a pretty solid Plan coming up. Plus I am finding difficulty in trying to see if I can just transfer a New Hard drive into a build with a new motherboard without interference from old Motherboard programs already on it. So I feel pulled towards Intel, but am starting to lean to Ryzen. I have tried to do research and everything comes up very one sided and I want a good look at it from my stand point.

So Continue Intel? Or try and make the Switch to Ryzen. I don't Feel like I will be needing all of the Video Editing Power of the Ryzen, but it still sounds tempting.

All help is Appreciated.

Thanks,

Aidan Hartline

Unlocked i5's get beaten in literally anything by 2 gen back locked i7's,  don't touch em with a ten foot pole.

Either get a 6700/7700 with an H110 mobo or get a 1600 and OC it silly.

New License of Windows

Not related to mobo, you'll be fine.

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

honestly I would buy a i7 7700. you would then have faster gaming and work oriented tasks for not that much. also you dont necessarily have to buy a new copy of windows if you change motherboards. I didn't when i went form am3+ to am4. there is a chance the license wont work but i heard you can just call Microsoft and they will activate it.

About that Windows License, you might want to check this out... Microsoft is still giving away Windows 10 for free. Its their "accessibility offer" for folks with disabilities, basically they want to show off their improved tools for that with the new update.
(Don't worry they won't check if you use them anyway, it's the standard installation through and through)

As stated above your best course of action would be an i7 6700 or update the board bios to support the i7 7700.

h110 is not overclockable so if i were you i wouldnt but the k model

about windows license just install from usb drive and say skip when it ask for a license code it wont be activated and have limited features but free and usable
